Christopher Newport Captures Fourth CAC Women's Cross Country Championship
Christopher Newport's Samantha Dickerson and Monica Lannen finished in third and fourth positions, respectively, to lead the Captains to their fourth overall CAC women's cross country title on Saturday (Nov. 2) at the 2019 Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Women's Cross Country Championship at Reservor Park on the campus of York College. CNU scored 51 points to edge York who finished runner-up with 55 points.
Southern Virginia sophomore Jill Westman earned CAC Champion honors after pacing the field with a 24:57.91 time to finish ahead of runner-up Heather Delaplaine from Salisbury.
CNU put six runners inside the Top 20 thanks to Jessica Lee (10th), Kaitlyn Ardrey (16th), Kellie Hyde (18th), and Abby Snyder (19th) who lifted the Captains to the conference crown.
York earned the second place finish led by Taylor Barkdoll in sixth place, while Emma Rogers (9th), Jordan Haberstroh (11th) and Amber Strouse (12th) all achieved second team all-conference honors.
Mary Washington's Grace Pippin collected CAC Rookie of the Year honors as the top freshman finisher. Pippin placed 21st with a time of 26:44.39.
First team all-conference honors were awarded to positions 1-8, while places 9-16 achieved second team accolades.
Note: CAC Athlete of the Year, Coaching Staff of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be determined following nationals.
