CNU's Putnam & York's Barkdoll Collect CAC Cross Country Athlete of the Week Honors

CAC -- The Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) has announced its weekly awards following the third week of the 2019 cross country season. York sophomore Taylor Barkdoll earned CAC Women's Athlete of the Week accolades, while Christopher Newport senior Jason Putnam claimed CAC Men's Athlete of the Week honors.


WOMEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Taylor Barkdoll - York (Pa.)

Sophomore Taylor Barkdoll was York's top finisher at Friday's Galen Piper XC Classic in Shippensburg University. Barkdoll ed the Green and White as she posted a top ten finish with a time of 15:29.9. Barkdoll notched a pace of 6:13.4 per mile over the 2.49-mile course. Barkdoll finished 49.9 seconds back of race winner Devon Hoernlein from Pittsburgh. Barkdoll was the top Division III finisher in the race.


MEN'S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jason Putnam - Christopher Newport

Christopher Newport senior Jason Putnam made his season debut while posting the top time among Division III competitors at the William & Mary Invitational on Friday at the Eastern State Course. During the 6k, the senior registered a time of 19:46.8, which placed him ninth among all competitors and beat the next closest Division III runner by nearly 45 seconds. That clocking also shaved 16 seconds off his previous 6k PR, which he established at the same competition in 2016.

St. Mary's junior Kara Taylor won the EMU On the Farm XC Invitational with a time of 20:13.2. Taylor led the Seahawks with her first place finish...Sophomore Tyler Wilson earned his first top five finish of the year at the Eastern Mennonite On the Farm XC Invitational. The native of Silver Spring, Maryland ran a 17:34.9 to lead the Seahawks with fifth place finish...York's Jake O'Neill was York's top finisher at Friday's Galen Piper XC Classic at Shippensburg. O'Neill led the way with an eighth-place finish as he crossed the line in a time of 19:45.7. He averaged 5:17.9 per mile as he finished 25.7 seconds behind race winner Samuel Sheldon from Gettysburg...Christopher Newport's Samantha Dickerson made her season debut while leading all non-Division I runners at the William & Mary Invitational on Friday at the Eastern State Course. During the race, the senior completed the 5k in 20:11.0. That clocking placed her 12th among all competitors and topped the next closest Division III entrant by over six seconds...Ashley Applegate led Mary Washington to the team championship at the Catholic University Invitational on Saturday, finishing third overall with a time of 25:04. The Eagles' top five runners all finished in the top 12 in the meet...Patrick Brown finished in first place overall as Mary Washington took first place at the Catholic University Invitational on Saturday. Brown, who has won his first two collegiate races, finished with a time of 27:06 on the 8K course, as the Eagles saw five runners finish in the top 17...Southern Virginia's Michael Myers led the men's team this past weekend in Roanoke, Virginia, at the ODAC Preview. In a meet that consisted of 18 teams and more than 160 runners Myers placed third overall while being the second collegiate to come across the finish line. His time of 25:32 was the progrman's best since the 2017 season...Sophia Dryden led the Knights to an impressive third-place finish at the ODAC Preview. The race consisted of 19 total teams and 147 runners. Dryden placed tenth overall but was eighth scoring in the meet with her time of 23:40.4 on the 6K course...Salisbury's Heather Delaplaine was the top placing female runner for Salisbury at the Kutztown Division II/III Challenge as she ran the 6K in 23:45.7 and ran a 6:23 average mile...Mason Kimbell paced the Salisbury men at the Kutztown Division II/III Challenge with a 28th-place effort in the 8K with a time of 27:07.9.
