FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --  Southern Virginia sophomore Shawn Lamb and Salisbury sophomore Brandon Warren secured CAC Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week honors for March 19, 2018.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Southern Virginia sophomore Shawn Lamb was honored as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after compiling 18 points in a pair of wins for the Knights last week. Lamb began the week with five goals and two assists in a 16-8 triumph over Hendrix. He followed that up with a three-goal, eight-assists outing in an 18-6 victory against Cazenovia. His eight-assist game set a new program record. He also collected five ground balls for the week. He leads the CAC in points (49) and assists (28) this season. 

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Salisbury sophomore goalkeeper Brandon Warren was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week after picking up his third victory in a row, helping the Sea Gulls defeat Eastern Shore rival Washington College in the annual War on the Shore, 7-6 in overtime. Warren notched a career-high 12 saves, including nine in the second half, while posting a save percentage of 66.7% in the victory. Warren owns a save percentage of 62.5% this season, which ranks atop the CAC.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

York is ranked No. 4, Salisbury is ranked No. 8, and Christopher Newport is ranked No. 18 in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) rankings ... CNU defeated Illinois Wesleyan 24-14. Facing an offense that ranked first in the nation in scoring, freshman goalkeeper Andrew Clark picked up the victory with 10 saves, marking the most by a first-year player since current assistant coach Matt Hayden had 14 against St. Mary's (Md.) on April 12, 2014. Additionally, he became the first Captain in program history to collect double-digit saves in a relief appearance. Especially dominant in the fourth quarter, the Exton, Pa. native helped blank Illinois Wesleyan over the final 15 minutes, which marked the first time the Titans were held scoreless for an entire period since Connecticut College blanked them in the fourth quarter on March 15, 2017. Matthew Crist led the Captains with eight points, including five goals. Additionally, Crist collected six ground balls during the game, which equaled his career-high ... Frostburg State sophomore Jack Marks notched a total of 19 saves in two wins last week. Senior Adam Gross totaled nine points for the Bobcats last week in wins over Messiah and Brockport ... Mary Washington junior Shane McKenzie racked up five points on one goal and four assists for the Eagles in their 11-9 loss to Geneseo on Saturday. He leads the Eagles with 20 assists in nine games this season ... Marymount junior Hunter McGeeney caused a game-high six turnovers against Susquehanna on Saturday, while scooping two ground balls. He has caused multiple turnovers in all eight games so far this season, as he currently has 28 for the year which ties his sophomore season. His 28 lead the CAC and places him in the top 20 in the country ... Cristian Quiroa notched a career- and game-best four caused turnovers plus three ground balls in St. Mary's only game of the week, a road loss to Catholic. Ray LaPlaca tallied a game-best three goals and team-best four points with three ground balls for the Seahawks ... Salisbury's Corey Gwin netted a team-high four goals including the overtime game winner and team-best five points in Salisbury's 7-6 overtime victory over Washington College. Gwin scored the Sea Gulls first and last goal of the game to deliver the Charles B. Clark Cup to Salisbury for the fifth-straight season. He also scooped up a team-high four groundballs while posting a shot on goal percentage of of 52.9 percent. For the season Gwin has scored 20 goals tying him for eighth in the CAC while recording 30 total points, which ranks him seventh overall in the conference ... Wesley's Josh Wassum tallied a goal with three assists and three ground balls in the Wolverines' lone game of the week against Goucher ... York posted a 2-0 week at the Stevenson Mustang Classic, defeating Nazareth 18-3 and host Stevenson 20-7. Thomas Pfeiffer tallied 13 points on nine goals and four assists throughout the two wins. His nine points against Stevenson tied his career-high, and his six goals against the Mustangs set a new career-high. Goalkeeper Landry Marshall posted a 3.56 goals against average and a save percentage of 57.1% in the two wins.
