Frostburg State Freshman Guy Nabo and Mary Washington Sophomore Matt Spencer Earn CAC Men's Soccer Weekly Honors

YORK, Pa. -- Frostburg State freshman Guy Nabo and Mary Washington sophomore Matt Spencer were honored as the CAC Men's Soccer Players of the Week for Oct. 5, 2015.

Frostburg State freshman Guy Nabo was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring two goals and adding an assist in a 2-0 week for the Bobcats. With the Bobcats trailing Wesley 2-1 late in regulation on Saturday, Nabo headed in the game-tying goal in the 74th minute before assisting on Jonathan Lippitt's evenutal game-winner in the 80th minute to give Frostburg State a dramatic 3-2 CAC victory. Earlier in the week, Nabo tallied the first goal in the Bobcats' 5-1 romp over Penn State Altoona.

Mary Washington sophomore Matt Spencer was awarded as the CAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after recording a shutout in net in the Eagles 3-0 victory over Marymount on Saturday. Spencer notched four saves to earn his seventh shutout of the season in the only action of the week for UMW.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport jumped one spot to No. 3 in last week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) National Rankings while Salisbury climbed two spots to No. 20 ... In the D3soccer.com rankings, CNU is No. 4 and Salisbury is No. 20... CNU extended the second longest unbeaten streak in the nation to 19 games following a 1-1 draw at York. Andrew Gogolin scored the game-tying goal for the Captains ... Alessandro Burlew notched a goal in each game as St. Mary's posted a 2-0 week. In a 3-2 victoy over Randolph-Macon, Burlew scored the first goal of the game and assist on another score. He netted the game-winner in the Seahawks' 6-0 shutout over Penn State Harrisburg. Burlew is second on the team with six goals so far this season ... Salisbury fell to Catholic 1-0 in its only action last week. Salisbury and Southern Virginia were scheduled to play a CAC contest on Saturday, but it was postponed due to inclement weather ... Wesley's Patrick Schlosser notched the eventual game-winner in a 4-1 victory over Eastern Mennonite on Wednesday, and added an assist on Adrian Coverdale's game-tying goal in a 3-2 loss against Frostburg State on Saturday ... York's Nigel Robinson recorded goals in each of the Spartans' two games this week. He began the week with a goal in the 16th minute of the 2-0 win over Lebanon Valley. He followed that with the Spartans' lone goal in the 1-1 tie with No. 3 CNU on Saturday.Robinson leads the Spartans with four goals while he is tied for the team lead in points with eight. Goalkeeper Charlie Johnson pitched his first shutout of the year vs. Lebanon Valley. For the year, Johnson owns a 1.29 goals against average and a .750 save percentage.
