St. Mary's Senior Grant Burgess Nabs Men's Swimming Weekly Accolades
YORK, Pa. -- St. Mary's senior Grant Burgess was named the CAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week for Feb. 2, 2016.

St. Mary's senior Grant Burgess was named the CAC Men's Swimming Athlete of the Week after capturing three first-place finishes and a school record in the regular-season finale win over Salisbury. Burgess won the 1,000 freestyle in his first event of the meet, coming in with a time of 9:59.13. His time set the school record, breaking the mark of 10:00.82 set by Billy DeBoissiere in 2011. The time ranks atop the CAC this season and 56th nationally. Burgess also took first in the 100 butterfly (54.68) and the 500 freestyle (4:52.55).

All six CAC squads were in action last week in their final tune-ups prior to the CAC Championship meet ... The CAC Championship is set for Feb. 19-21 at the St. Mary's Aquatics Center ... Last week's slate featured four CAC matchups ... St. Mary's edged Salisbury 104-101 in the closest matchup of the week ... Mary Washington finished atop the CAC standings at 5-0 and 7-1 overall, followed by St. Mary's (7-4, 4-1 CAC), Salisbury (4-5, 3-2 CAC), Marymount (4-5, 2-3 CAC), York (6-8, 1-4 CAC) and Frostburg State (3-8, 0-5 CAC) ... Frostburg State's Zach Shattuck broke a total of six Class S6 Paralympic American swimming records against Marymout on Saturday ... Mary Washington's Matthew Garstka won three events in his regular season finale, with a pair of relay wins in the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay, and also won the 50 freestyle at 22.27 ... Marymount's Matt Essig cruised to three individual top finishes to help the Saints topple York last weekend ... Salisbury's Okan Eyigor won the 100 backstroke in 54.04 against St. Mary's ... York's Kyle Walthall won the 100 and 200 breaststrokes against Mary Washington, and captured top honors in the 200 breaststroke vs. Marymount. Walthall now has 15 individual wins for the 2015-16 campaign.
