Christopher Newport Junior Sam Murch and Salisbury Junior Matthew Adedeji Secure CAC Men's Track & Field Weekly Accolades

YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport junior Sam Murch and Salisbury junior Matthew Adedeji secured CAC Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week honors for Feb. 7, 2017 after both registering record-breaking performances last weekend.

Christopher Newport junior Sam Murch was awarded as the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after establishing a new school record and posting the top time in the CAC this season in the 3,000 meters at the Vince Brown Invitational on Saturday at the Freeman Center. Murch won the event in 8:33.49, which shaved nearly three seconds off the previous CNU standard of 8:36.10 that was established by David Woodson in 2008. His clocking is also five seconds faster than the second-best mark in the CAC this year and ranks first in the South / Southeast Region and 20th in the NCAA. 

 

Field Athlete of the Week

Matthew Adedeji | Salisbury | Jr.

Salisbury junior Matthew Adedeji was honored as the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after breaking the school record and placing first in the triple jump at the Vince Brown Invitational. Adedeji captured victory with a distance of 46'-7.25", besting the previous school mark by 1.25 inches. His mark ranks second in the CAC this season and 13th in Division III. He also earn a top-five finish in the high jump, finishing in a tie for fifth with a height of 6'-.75".

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Five CAC indoor track & field squads have wrapped up their indoor regular seasons, while Frostburg State, Salisbury, and Southern Virginia will compete this weekend in a final tune-up for the CAC Indoor Championships ... The CAC Indoor Track & Field Championships are set for Saturday, Feb. 18 at Christopher Newport ... Frostburg State sophomore Shamar Nelson won the long jump and also qualified for the ECAC Championships with a distance of 6.66 meters (21'-10.25") at the SU Challenge at Susquehanna ... For Mary Washington at the Vince Brown Invitational, freshman Camron Rauch finished fifth in the 200 meters at 22.79 seconds, and Camron Coates and Scott Black finished eighth and ninth in the 800 meters. Jeff Gibson was eighth in the 3,000 meters at 8:48.38, and David Danek was third in the high jump at 6'-2.75". Daniel Forjan was eighth in the shot put and weight throw ... Salisbury junior Zach Schmelz captured two top-five finishes at the Vince Brown Invitational, placing fourth in both the 400 (51.28) and 200-meter (22.73) dashes ... Wesley competed at the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus on Saturday. Rayshawn McRae tallied three top-five finishes, taking second in the triple jump (13.29m) and tying for second in the high jump (1.83m), and also was a part of the winning 4x200 relay squad in 1:32.40. Greg Taylor won the 60-meter dash for the Wolverines in 6.98 and was also a part of the 4x200 relay ... York competed at the SU Challenge at Susquehanna on Friday at the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus on Saturday. Kevin Landis registered a CAC championships qualifying height in the pole vaut (3.85m) at the Frank Colden Invitational, finishing sixth. At Susquehanna, Rick Jones placed third in the 200-meter dash (23.69).
