Christopher Newport Senior Cullen Monahan and Salisbury Senior Duncan Ferrin Earn CAC Men's Track & Field Weekly Awards

FREDERICKBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport senior Cullen Monahan and Salisbury senior Duncan Ferrin received CAC Men's Track & Field weekly awards for Feb. 27, 2018.

Christopher Newport senior Cullen Monahan earned CAC Track Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season after registering the fourth-fastest time in the nation in the 800 at the JDL Last Chance Invitational on Sunday. Monahan won the 800 with a time of 1:53.42, which stands as the third-fastest clocking in CNU program history and the fourth-best mark in the NCAA this year. He also ran the third leg on the DMR, which registered a time of 10:06.84. With that time, the foursome ranks 11th in the country this season. 

Field Athlete of the Week

Salisbury senior Duncan Ferrin was named the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after breaking the school record and posting the 13th-best mark nationally in the weight throw at the George Mason Last Chance meet. Ferrin posted a throw of 59'-11.25" to finish first at the meet and break the previous school record of 56'-4.75" set by Jay Drenner in 2012.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Six CAC indoor track & field teams competed last week in hopes of pushing for final qualifying spots at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships ... The 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships are set for March 9-10 in Birmingham, Ala. ... Frostburg State sophomore John Kerns posted a school-record toss of 55'-3.5" (16.85m) in the weight throw at the George Mason Last Chance Meet. It marks the sixth-consecutive meet in which Kerns has hit the ECAC distance in the weight throw ... Mary Washington senior Jose Mundo finished third in the 60 meters at the George Mason Last Chance meet with a time of 7.06, after running 7.04 in the prelims. Sophomore David Danek finished in first place in the high jump at the George Mason Last Chance Invitational, clearing the bar with a leap of 2.04 meters.​
