FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport's Kurt Waller & Southern Virginia's Derek Blasko were selected as CAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for March 26, 2019. 

Track Athlete of the Week

Christopher Newport's Kurt Waller posted a pair of victories and moved into the top-25 nationally in three events during his showcase at the Dr. Jack Toms Invitational at the University of Lynchburg. In the 400, he posted a victory with a time of 48.89, which ranks as the fifth-fastest clocking in the NCAA this year. He also anchored the victorious 4x400-relay, which finished in 3:24.74. That ranks 13th in the country. Along with his two victories, the junior also completed the 200 in 22.10. That places him 22nd in the nation and first in the CAC.

Southern Virginia junior Derek Blasko finished placed top-three in each of his events at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational winning both the javelin and shot put while placing third in the discus. Blasko is in 12th in Division III in the shot with his throw of 14.65m and sits 34th in the javelin with a mark of 50.94m.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Salisbury's Ethan Binnix turned in a a solid performance at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Binnix finished 22nd in the 400-meter dash, competing against athletes from all divisions, completing the race in a time of 50.16 seconds. He then aided the 4x400-meter relay place fourth overall as the team completed the race in a time of 3:22.35...Frostburg State's Zachary Stump turned in a solid performance at the three-day Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. posting a sixth-place finish in the pole vault. In her first outdoor meet of the season Stump cleared the bar at a height of 14' 5.5" to earn the top-10 finish. His height currently ranks him in a tie for 14th in the nation...Frostburg State's Michael Belcher had an impressive outdoor debut by winning both the shot put at 12.79 meters (41ft. 11.50in.) and the discus at 45.34 meters (148ft. 9in.) at the Juniata Invitational ... He also added third in the hammer throw at 43.17 meters (141ft. 8in)...Mary Washington's Ripken Smith won two events at Goucher College Invitational on Saturday. He won the discus at 42.96 meters and the hammer throw at 45.86 meters and took second in the shot put at 13.07 meters...
