FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Christopher Newport freshman Patty Maye Ohanian and sophomore Aubrey Bates swept the CAC Softball Players of the Week for April 9, 2018.

Christopher Newport freshman Patty Maye Ohanian was named the CAC Player of the Week after leading the first-place Captains to a 4-0 week by going 7-for-13 (.538) at the plate with three doubles and five RBIs. Ohanian scored three times, stole two bases and posted an on-base percentage of .600 and slugging percentage of .769 on the week. She was 4-for-7 with two doubles and three RBIs in two key CAC wins over Salisbury. She also earned a win pitching in relief against the Sea Gulls.

Christopher Newport sophomore Aubrey Bates secured CAC Pitcher of the Week accolades for the second time this year after posting a 2-0 mark on the mound with a pair of complete games to help the Captains extend their winning streak to 12 games. Bates opened the week with a five-inning shutout against Salisbury in an 8-0 win, striking out three and surrendering just three hits. She then posted a one-run seven-inning performance in a 6-1 victory over William Peace, striking out 10 and allowing three hits. She is now 9-0 for the 21-3 Captains.

In the April 4 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Top-25 Poll, Christopher Newport is ranked No. 4 ... Frostburg State senior Allison Short tossed a pair of wins last week. She opened the week with a three-strikeout win over Southern Virginia before closing the week with six strikeouts in a nine-inning win over York ... Mary Washington junior Kara Deppe pitched a nine inning 1-0 shutout win over Wesley on Thursday, allowing four hits while striking out 15. She pitched two innings of relief in game two, striking out three. She posted a 1.27 ERA in 11 innings, allowing two earned runs while fanning 18 on the day. Freshman Kassie Bender went 3-for-5 in Mary Washington's doubleheader at Wesley, adding a walk and an RBI ... Penn State Harrisburg sophomore Dominique Emmett went 3-for-3 with an RBI in game two of the Lions match up with York ... Salisbury senior LeAnne Collins batted .571 in a 2-2 week for the Sea Gulls. Collins was 8-for-14 while ripping a pair of doubles and scoring twice. In a 5-3, late-game loss to CNU, Collins was 4-for-4 with a double ... Southern Virginia sophomore Mykayla Johnson led the team with four RBIs last week and hit a walk-off homer to beat York in game two, 2-1. She recorded a hit in each game and only struck out once ... Junior Megan DiRubbio tallied six hits in 13 at-bats in Wesley's week. She also drove in three runs and stole three bases from the lead off spot for the Wolverines. Freshman Abbey Mayse pitched nine strong innings against Mary Washington on Thursday. She only allowed a run in the ninth and scattered nine hits and two walks while striking out two ... York senior Ashley Werner picked up her 100th career hit in the win over Frostburg State on Sunday. Werner is the second Spartan to get her 100th career hit during the season as Joanna Marmo reached the milestone in the win over F&M earlier in the season ... York sophomore pitcher Ginger Lewis went 2-1 last week, including a 10-inning no-hitter in a 1-0 win over Penn State Harrisburg. Lewis struck out eight and walked one as she lost the perfect game in the top of the seventh inning. For the season, Lewis is 8-3 with one save in 17 appearances including 11 starts. She has struck out 110 in 87 innings while she has walked just 21. She has a season ERA of 2.25.
