YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport sophomore Anitra Thomas was awarded as the CAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 18, 2016.

Christopher Newport sophomore Anitra Thomas was awarded as the CAC Player of the Week after helping the Captains to key conference victories over Mary Washington and York that moved them into a three-way tie for second place. Thomas grabbed a career-high seven rebounds against UMW, before registering 23 points, four assists and four three-pointers against York. For the week, she averaged 15.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 52.4% from the floor.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Marymount received votes in both the WBCA/USA TODAY rankings and the D3hoops.com rankings last week ... York received votes in the WBCA/USA TODAY poll, while Christopher Newport and Mary Washington received votes in the D3hoops.com poll ... First-place Marymount (7-1 CAC) fell for the first time in conference play last week, and now holds a one-game edge over CNU, UMW and York atop the CAC standings ... Frostburg State's Kirsten Rayner poured in two double-doubles last week in a pair of losses ... Mary Washington junior center Brianne Comden was one of three Eagles to average double figures for the week, but saved her best effort with 16 points and 11 rebounds in a 62-49 win at previously unbeaten Marymount on Saturday. She made 8-of-15 shots on the day ... Marymount's Leah Hurst put together a career day on Wednesday in a victory over Penn State Harrisburg, notching her first collegiate double-double with 17 points, just one point shy of a career high, and 10 assists, a career high ... Kerri Kline helped St. Mary's to a 1-1 week with a pair of double-digit scoring performances. Kline posted a game-high 17 points behind three triples against York, and notched a game-best 15 points as the Seahawks held on for a win at Penn State Harrisburg ... Salisbury's Julia McLaughlin averaged 21.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals while shooting 51.4% in a 1-1 week ... Larissa Macfarlane led Southern Virginia in scoring in both games last week ... Wesley's Brionna Johnson notched two double-doubles in three games in a 2-1 week for the Wolverines. In the first quarter of Wesley's game against Frostburg State on Saturday, the junior eclipsed the 1,000-point threshold becoming the 10th Wolverine in program history to reach the milestone.
