YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport sophomore Meaghan Galvin and Salisbury freshman Gianna Falcone were named the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 16 , 2015.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport sophomore Meaghan Galvin was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Captains with nine points and six goals in a 2-0 week. She also added a team-high 13 draw controls, including eight against Virginia Wesleyan, to go along with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Galvin recorded a hat-trick in both games and also added a pair of assists during the CAC opener against Wesley on Saturday. 

Defensive Player of the Week

Salisbury freshman Gianna Falcone was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after turning away 11 shots in her first collegiate start, a 10-7 victory over No. 12 York on Saturday. Falcone kept the Spartans off the board through the first eight minutes of the game, making three tough saves, including a free-position shot. Of the five free-position shots on target throughout the game, she turned away three of the one-on-one opportunities. She finished the game with a 61.1 save percentage.

In the IWLCA Rankings, Salisbury is No. 14 and York is No. 16 while St. Mary's and Mary Washington received votes ... In the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Rankings, Salisbury is No. 13, York is No. 15, St. Mary's is No. 20 and Mary Washington is receiving votes ... After cracking into the starting lineup, Christopher Newport's Tess D'Arcy made the most of the opportunity with a team-high eight ground balls and four caused turnovers during CNU's two victories last week ... Frostburg State's Megan Hart finished the week with six goals and two assists as the Bobcats pushed their winning streak to four games. Hart found the net three times with two assists in 17-9 win over Thiel before scoring three times as Bobcats opened CAC action with a 12-6 win over Marymount ... Freshman Holly Hudson led Mary Washington to a win at Randolph-Macon, scoring four goals and adding two assists. She also added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Emily Atkinson scored five goals for UMW in the 16-14 win ... Tori Poffenberger was the offensive leader for St. Mary's in its 1-1 week with a seven-point performance in the win at Goucher. She followed that up with a hat trick in the loss at No. 10 Washington & Lee. Poffenberger leads the CAC with 26 goals this year. Shelby Newman led St. Mary's defensively with 11 ground balls and seven caused turnovers for the week ... Salisbury's Hannah Young scored a game-high and career-high tying four goals in the Sea Gulls' victory over York ... Southern Virginia's Rainey Whitworth had nine goals, one assist, three caused turnovers and six ground balls last week, including a career-high five goals against Columbia (S.C.). Whitworth ranks second in the CAC with 21 goals on the year.
