YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport junior Meaghan Galvin and Salisbury senior Samantha Duranti were honored as the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 21, 2016.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport junior Meaghan Galvin grabbed CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after totaling five goals, six assists and 13 draw controls in a 2-0 week for the Captains. On Wednesday, she posted a record-setting effort in a 19-8 victory over Randolph-Macon, setting a new career-high with five assists while leading CNU with seven points and six draw controls. Guided by those efforts, she established new program records for career draw controls (189) and free-position goals (34) during the victory. On Saturday, she came back with four points, including a hat trick, during an 11-5 triumph over St. Mary's. She also added a game-high seven draw controls and forced two turnovers. 

Defensive Player of the Week

Salisbury senior Samantha Duranti was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after putting together a strong week in the midfield and defensively for the Sea Gulls, picking up three ground balls and causing four turnovers. In a 9-6 victory over No. 3 Trinity (Conn.) last Tuesday, Duranti tallied three ground balls and caused a turnover as the Salisbury defense held the Bantams to single-digit scoring for the first time this season. Later in the week, she caused three turnovers and was a big part of the Sea Gulls' shutout win over Southern Virginia.

Five CAC teams are ranked in both national polls ... In the IWLCA National Rankings, Salisbury is No. 5, York is No. 8, Mary Washington is No. 17, Christopher Newport is No. 19 and St. Mary's in No. 20 ... In the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Rankings, Salisbury is No. 6, York is No. 8, Christopher Newport is No. 18, Mary Washington is No. 19 and St. Mary's is No. 20 ... Mary Washington (8-0) and St. Mary's (6-0) remain unbeaten in 2016 ... Seven CAC teams boast winning overall records thus far this season ... CNU goalkeeper Emma Walsh notched 18 saves in a pair of victories last week, including her fourth double-digit save effort of the year with 10 stops in the win over St. Mary's ... Frostburg State's Logan Brady scored eight goals and added four assists in a 2-1 week for the Bobcats. She accented her week with a five-goal, two-assist performance in a 19-8 win over St. Vincent. Goalkeeper Dylan Teitelbaum set a career-high in saves twice last week, opening with 17 saves in a 14-5 win over Shenandoah before notching 18 saves in a loss to Mary Washington ... Marymount pushed its winning streak to six games with wins over Randolph and Shenandoah, tying the program record set in 2002. Abby Wescott tallied 11 points on the week, including a seven-goal, one-assist performance vs. Shenandoah. Wescott leads the CAC and ranks third in the nation with 21 assists ... Junior Emily Mott led Mary Washington with seven points last week on four goals and three assists. She had a goal and an assist in a 9-7 loss at Catholic, and added three goals and two assists in a win at Frostburg State ... St. Mary's went 2-1 last week, led by 15 points (11g, 4a) from Tori Poffenberger. Kayla Dunn posted an 8.33 GAA in between the pipes for the Seahawks ... Salisbury's Ariana Maxwell tallied seven goals last week, including five in the 9-6 win over third-ranked Trinity (Conn.) ... Southern Virginia's Rainey Whitworth leads the Knights in goals (26), assists (7) and draw controls (33), and ranks second in the CAC in draw controls  ... Katelyn Cattrano led York to a pair of wins with seven points on one goal and six assists. In the win over SUNY Geneseo, Cattrano had an assist and two caused turnovers as York earned a 5-4 victory. She then had a goal, five assists and a pair of ground balls in a CAC win over Wesley. For the year, Cattrano has 15 points on six goals and nine assists for the Spartans.
