YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport senior Meaghan Galvin and St. Mary's senior Haley Sieglein were named the CAC Women's Lacrosse Players of the Week for March 27, 2017.  

Offensive Player of the Week

Christopher Newport senior Meaghan Galvin was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week and third time this year after totaling 13 points and 23 draw controls in a 2-0 week for the Captains. On Thursday at Southern Virginia, she kicked off her week with six points and 13 draw controls during a 19-2 victory over the Knights. Her 13 draws marked a new school record. Two days later, she came back with seven points and matched her career-high with five assists during an 18-7 triumph over Shenandoah. Her first assist of the game marked the 100th of her career, helping her become just the second player in program history with 100 career goals and 100 career assists. She is also now the only active player at any level of the NCAA with 100 career goals, assists, and draw controls. Meanwhile, Galvin also secured 10 draws against the Hornets. That marked her third double-digit effort in the past two weeks.

St. Mary's senior Haley Sieglein secured CAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades after tallying seven caused turnovers and seven ground balls in a 2-1 week for the Seahawks. Sieglein began the week with two ground balls and two caused turnovers at Washington College before ending the week with career-bests of five caused turnovers and four ground balls plus her fourth career goal against Wesley.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

CAC play ramped up last week with six matchups across the conference ... Three CAC teams are ranked in the IWLCA National Rankings, with York at No. 7, Salisbury at No. 13, and Mary Washington at No. 16 ... Frostburg State freshman Nikki Hallikas tallied five goals, one assist, 18 draw controsl, three ground balls, and three caused turnovers in a 1-1 week for the Bobcats ... Sophomore Hanna Ashby led the Mary Washington defense this week, as the 16th-ranked Eagles won two of three contests. She posted a 6.90 GAA in three games, making 17 saves, with a 53.1 save percentage. She made six stops in a 16-6 win at Randolph-Macon, added one save in a 17-1 win over Wesley, and added 10 saves in a loss at No. 8 York. Sophomores Allison Davis and Mackenzie Maguire led the Eagles this week with seven goals and two assists each ... Marymount senior Natalie Tinkham had a strong week in the midfield, causing five turnovers, scooping up six ground balls, and winning four draw controls, while adding an assist on the offensive end in a 1-1 week for the Saints. Jessica Crew scored nine goals for the Saints last week, putting away a game-high four scores in a 10-7 victory against Shenandoah, and registering a game-high five goals against Frostburg State. Crew leads the Saints with 30 goals this season, which ranks third in the conference ... Meg Gesner totaled eight goals and six assists in a 2-1 week for St. Mary's. Gesner started the week with a career-best two assists at Washington College before picking up her 100th career point with a four-point performance against McDaniel. She finished out the week with career-bests of five goals, three assists, and eight points in a shutout win over Wesley. Gesner was efficient on attack as she tallied eight goals on 12 shots in the last two games ... Salisbury junior Dana King scored three times and added a pair of assists in two wins over three contests this past week. King came up with the biggest goal of the team's 6-5 win against Colby, netting the game winner with less than five minutes to play ... Southern Virginia senior Zoe Bradshaw was the only Knight to score in all three games this week. She leads the team in all offensive categories and leads the CAC in goals with 33 ... Wesley goalkeeper Shelby Schirmer made 15 saves in two games for the Wolverines last week ... York goalkeeper Charlotte Wright led the Spartans to a 1-1 week against a pair of nationally ranked opponents this past week. Wright tallied four saves against both No. 2 Gettysburg and No. 16 Mary Washington, posting a goals against average of 6.67 for the week. Freshman Meghan Fox led the Spartan offense, notching three goals and three assists. For the season, Fox leads the Spartans in scoring with 21 points on 14 goals and seven assists. She has one game-winning goal to go along with eight ground balls and five caused turnovers in seven games.
