Stevenson freshman Kathryn Merrick has already experienced the highs and lows of collegiate athletics. She is a member of the women’s soccer team, playing in half the games for the Mustangs, who tied for second place in the CAC. This spring, she suffered a season-ending injury during the women’s lacrosse preseason and has been sidelined as the nationally-ranked Mustangs battle for playoff position in one of the most competitive seasons in conference history. Frostburg State head women's soccer coach Brian Parker was honored with the 2011 Edward Finzel Honor Award at the Maryland Association of Coaches of Soccer (MACS) banquet on Monday evening. The award, which has been handed out since 1984, recognizes the service of an individual outside of the MACS organization.

Salisbury University coach Jim Nestor observed that his team avoided the injury bug that has plagued the Sea Gulls the past few years, enabling his squad to win the CAC regular-season and playoff championships. The Gulls were rewarded by the conference coaches with six of the 24 All-CAC nods, selected Nestor as the Coach of the Year for the second time in his career and freshman goalie Michelle Conrad (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) as the Rookie of the Year.
