Mary Washington Senior Lizzie Weast and Christopher Newport Sophomore Carly Maglio Named CAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington senior Lizzie Weast and Christopher Newport sophomore Carly Maglio were honored as the CAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week for Oct. 19, 2015. 

Offensive Players of the Week

Mary Washington senior Lizzie Weast was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after tying the CAC single-game points record with four goals and two assists in the Eagles' triumph over Marymount on Saturday. Weast's big day tied Frostburg State's Erin Worthman's 10-point performance from just two weeks ago, and also tied the UMW school record for points, set by Debbie Griesse in 1988.

Christopher Newport sophomore Carly Maglio was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week for the second straight week after playing all 272 minutes in goal for the Captains in a 3-0 week. Maglio picked up two solo shutouts in conference play, making eight total saves on the road in 2-0 wins over St. Mary's and Wesley. She first registered three saves against St. Mary's and then picked up five stops at Wesley. In the Captains' third game of the week against defending national champion and fourth-ranked Lynchburg, Maglio made nine saves, including a fully outstreched diving save in the 86th minute to save the game for CNU in a 3-2 overtime victory. For the week, she posted a .895 save percentage and 0.66 goals against average.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

More than halfway through the conference regular season, Christopher Newport (5-1), St. Mary's (5-1), Salisbury (4-1-1), Frostburg State (4-1-1) and Mary Washington (4-2) boast winning records ... With a goal and two assists last week, CNU's Victoria Perry moved into the top 5 all-time at CNU in career points with 72 (27g, 18a). She also is tied for third in career assists, with 18. In the win at Wesley, CNU posted the fifth most shots in a single game in program history (46). The Captains defeated fourth-ranked Lynchburg, handing the Hornets just their third loss in their last 63 games, led by two goals from freshman Gabby Gillis. CNU has won six straight games ... Penn State Harrisburg freshman Kristen Stark tallied two goals and three assists in a 2-0 week for the Lions with wins over Lancaster Bible and Southern Virginia. Senior defender Kristen Peckman helped the Lions' defense post a pair of shutouts while also adding a goal and an assist in the 8-0 win over Southern Virginia ... St. Mary's Jess Konecke notched her sixth career game-winning goal in a 2-1 overtime win against Frostburg State ... Salisbury shutout Southern Virginia and York last week, with Jenna DeLetto leading the offense with two goals an an assist. Heather Deamond and the SU defense allowed just seven shots against Southern Virginia and nine against York ... Wesley freshman goalkeeper Antonia Pote came off the bench against York and blanked the Spartans in the second half, making six saves and helping the Wolverines mount a comeback that fell just short. Against CNU, Pote made a career-high 17 saves and allowed just one goal in 75 minutes.
