FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Penn State Harrisburg junior Kristen Stark and Salisbury senior Hope Knussman were honored as the CAC Women's Soccer Players of the Week for Oct. 2, 2017.   

Offensive Player of the Week

Penn State Harrisburg junior Kristen Stark was named the CAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring four goals in a 2-0 week for the Lions. Stark opened the week with her first career hat trick in a 6-1 victory over Lycoming, registering all three goals in the opening 45 minutes of play. She followed that performance by recording the game-winning goal in the Lions' 3-0 victory over Southern Virginia in CAC action. Stark leads the CAC with 10 goals this season. 

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Salisbury senior Hope Knussman received CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after recording a shutout victory on the road at Mary Washington on Saturday. In the Sea Gulls' lone contest of the week, Knussman recorded four saves to post her second shutout win of the season.

Christopher Newport is ranked in both national polls. The Captains are No. 5 in the D3soccer.com rankings and No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches poll ... CNU is off to the best start in program history at 9-0-1. Junior Gabby Gillis notched a hat trick, including the game-winning goal, in CNU's only action last week as the Captains downed Wesley 11-0 in CAC action. Her first career hat trick was the first for CNU since 2014 and the 21st hat trick in program history ... Frostburg State goalkeeper Emily Faust played in two games, including her first start at Frostburg State in the Bobcats' 0-0 draw with St. Mary's. She opened the week with three saves in a draw with Gettysburg and notched three more saves against the Seahawks ... Zoe Smedley lifted St. Mary's to a 1-0-1 week as Smedley's first career goal ended up being the game-winning goal in a 2-1 road win over Catholic ... Salisbury senior Ruthie Lucas scored her sixth goal of the season on a game-winner over Mary Washington to move the Sea Gulls into a tie for first place in the CAC at 2-0 ... In her first career starts, Wesley goalkeeper Amanda Deputy made 22 saves for the Wolverines ... York junior midfielder Caitlin Rankin notched two goals and two assists in a 1-1 week for the Spartans. For the season, Rankin leads the Spartans with 10 points on four goals and two assists.
