Mary Washington Senior Shannon Coryell Earns Second Straight CAC Women's Swimming Weekly Award

YORK, Pa. -- Mary Washington senior Shannon Coryell was named the CAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week for the second straight time on Nov. 8, 2016.

Mary Washington senior Shannon Coryell was named the CAC Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week for the second straight week after turning in the top times in the conference in the 500 freestyle and 100 butterfly in dual meet victory over Marymount last week. Coryell won the 50 freestyle (24.91) and the 100 butterfly (59.77) with the top times in the conference and 52nd and 38th-best marks nationally, respectively. She was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay at 1:52.30 and the 200 freestyle relay at 1:42.09.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Mary Washington and York are both 3-0 on the year and 2-0 in CAC meets ... In CAC action last week, Salisbury defeated Frostburg State 146-59, York defeated St. Mary's 130-75, and Mary Washington defeated Marymount 157-75 ... Frostburg State junior Macey Nitchie finished first in the 50-meter freestyle (27.91) and 100-meter freestyle (1:00.67) against Salisbury. Both times were school records and the 50 freestyle time was a Salisbury pool record. She also swam the freestyle leg of the 200-medley relay which finished second and was also a school-record in 2:08.10 ... Marymount junior Morgan Alston paced the Saints with three second-place finishes on Saturday against Mary Washington, and was all over the top-10 list in program history ... St. Mary's senior Elizabeth Straathof earned 27 points this week for the Seahawks last week, claiming two of St. Mary's three gold medals against Randolph-Macon. She also notched two silvers against Randolph-Macon and York ... Salisbury senior Victoria Radcliffe placed first in the 100-meter IM vs. Frostburg State with a new Salisbury pool record of 1:09.80. Radcliffe was also a member of the winning 200-meter medel relay in 2:08.10 ... York sophomore Maddy Mann picked up two more individual wins to help lead the undefeated Spartans to a 119-86 win over St. Mary's on Saturday in York's lone meet of the week. Mann picked up individual wins in the 100 freestyle (55.64) and 200 freestyle (1:59.16), and also swam the anchor leg of the winning 200 medley relay team as the Spartans combined to post a time of 1:58.14. Mann has six individual wins for the year while she owns two of the top three times in the CAC in the 200 this year.
