Frostburg State Sophomore Kayla Truesdel and Mary Washington Senior Taylor Cockerille Earn CAC Women's Track & Field Weekly Awards

YORK, Pa. -- Frostburg State sophomore Kayla Truesdel and Mary Washington senior Taylor Cockerille were selected as the CAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Jan. 19, 2016.

Frostburg State sophomore Kayla Truesdel was awarded as the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after opening the 2016 portion of the indoor schedule with three wins and a runner-up showing at the Marietta Open. She won 55 (7.24), 200 (26.28) and 400-meter dashes, including an ECAC qualifying time in the 200. She also helped the 4x400-meter relay team to second place in 4:21.96. Treusdel's 200 and 400 times rank first in the CAC and 13th and 37th nationally, respectively.

Mary Washington senior Taylor Cockerille was named the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after setting personal records in the shot put and weight throw at the CNU Triangular. She finished first in the shot put at 40'-4.25" and finished second in the weight throw at 45'-7.25". Her shot put mark ranks first in the CAC and 26th in the nation, while her weight throw is second in the conference.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Five CAC teams opened the 2016 portion of the indoor season last week ... Christopher Newport hosted the CNU Triangular at the Freeman Center. Jennifer Westerholm posted a victory and a pair of second-place efforts, winning the 60 hurdles (9.74), placing second in the high jump (1.52m) and second in the long jump (4.85m). Her performance in the long jump currently ranks as the finest in the CAC this season ... Mary Washington sophomore Janel Moore finished first in the 200 meters at the CNU Trimeet on Friday, at 27.35, and took second in the 60 meters, missing out of first in a photo finish at 8.20 seconds ... Penn State Harrisburg competed at the Kutztown Invitational ... Salisbury will open the 2016 indoor season at the Collegeville Classic hosted by Ursinus on Saturday ... Wesley will compete next at the Gotham Cup in Staten Island, N.Y. on Jan. 22 ... Emily Cronise was York's lone first-place finisher at Friday's Kutztown Invitational. Cronise won the 500 meter dash as she crossed the line in a time of 1:23.82. She also ran the anchor on the 4x800 meter relay team that finished second with a time of 10:31.25.
