YORK, Pa. -- Frostburg State junior Kayla Truesdel and Christopher Newport senior Briana Sutton were honored as the CAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Jan. 24, 2017.

Frostburg State junior Kayla Truesdel was named the CAC Track Athlete of the Week for the third straight week after hitting two more ECAC Championship qualifying marks at Susquehanna's Orange & Maroon Classic. Truesdel has now hit two ECAC marks in all three meets this season. She finished first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.85 and also crossed first in the 200-meter dash at 26.31. Her 60 time ranks sixth in the nation this indoor season. 

Field Athlete of the Week

Christopher Newport senior Briana Sutton was honored as the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after taking over the top spot in the nation in the pentathlon at the Captains Invitational on Friday. Sutton registered a score of 3,301, becoming the first Division III athlete to top 3,300 points this season. Her finest effort came in the high jump when she matched her personal record with a height of 1.57 meters. She also notched the top effort in the shot put (11.22 meters) and 800 (2:33.14) during the pentathlon. Guided by those efforts, she won the pentathlon - topping a field that included seven Division I competitors. On Saturday, she returned to the track to post a season-best distance in the shot put with an 11.32-meter toss. That distance currently ranks fifth in the South / Southeast Region.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Seven CAC teams competed last week, while Salisbury will begin its indoor campaign this week ... The CAC Indoor Track & Field Championships are set for Saturday, Feb. 18 at Christopher Newport ... Mary Washington freshman Erin Andrewlevich set a new UMW indoor record in the 300 meters at the Maryland Terrapin Invitational on Saturday. Andrewlevich finished with a time of 43.02 ... Southern Virginia competed in its first-ever track & field meet at the Captains Invitational hosted by CNU. Sydney Bigelow placed 13th in the mile with a time of 5:51.90 to pace the Knights ... Wesley competed at the Terrapin Invitational. Freshman Jasmine Brown came in third place in the high jump with a mark of 1.63 meters and placed fifth in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking in at 9.27 seconds. Junior Chiquita Deline was part of the distance medley relay team that placed third at 13:29.13 and came in seventh place in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:48.91 ...York's Georgia Gillcrist finished fifth in the 400-meter dash at the Susquehanna Maroon & Orange Invitational with a time of 1:01.92.
