YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport junior Briana Sutton was named the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week for Sept. 29, 2015.

Christopher Newport junior Briana Sutton was named the CAC Volleyball Player of the Week after averaging 5.46 kills and hitting .333 in a 2-1 week for the second-ranked Captains. On Friday against No. 4 Emory, Sutton hit .388 with 28 kills, the most kills for a CNU player since the NCAA switched to 25-point sets, and also set a career-high with 15 digs. On Saturday, she posted 23 kills and a .311 hitting percentage against Randolph-Macon. She then capped off the week with 20 kills and a .293 hitting percentage against Washington & Lee on Saturday evening, becoming the first Captain to register 20 kills in a three-set match since 2006 and the first player since 2001 to have at least 20 kills in three consecutive contests. Along with her work on the offensive end, Sutton converted 42 of her 43 reception attempts and posted a pair of double-doubles during the three matches.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

CAC play will be in full swing this week with numerous matchups on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday ... Christopher Newport moved up one spot to No. 2 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Week 3 Top-25, released last Tuesday. CNU also received one first-place vote in the poll while Mary Washington was just outside the top-25, receiving 35 votes ... Frostburg State sophomore setter Madelyn Torres handed out 96 assists in two matches over the weekend, including a career-high 57 assists in a narrow loss to Lebanon Valley. She also added 26 digs, eight kills and four blocks. Senior Aimee Petrides also smacked her 1,000th career kill in Frostburg State's 3-1 win over Neumann ... Marymount senior Morgan McAlpin guided the Saints to a 2-1 week, registering 36 kills and a .279 kill percentage while also contributing 11 blocks. She collected match-highs in kills in both matches on Saturday against Virginia Wesleyan and Shenandoah ... Alli Graf posted a pair of double-doubles in a 1-1 week for St. Mary's. Graf tallied a season-best 13 kills in a 3-1 loss vs. Lynchburg before adding season-highs of four assists and three service aces in sweep of host Randolph-Macon ... Rachel Pierson took over the setting for Salisbury in a 5-0 week, posting 30 or more assists in four of the matches. She led the team with 167 on the week and came within two assists of her career high with 44 against Montclair State. Pierson also picked up 12 kills, 32 digs, 10 service aces, and five blocks for a well-rounded effort in the five matches ... Wesley's Tionne Graves-Brown helped the Wolverines to a 3-1 record last week, including a 12-kill 11-dig double-double vs. Immaculata. She accumulated 31 kills, 31 digs, five aces, two blocks, and an assist on the week. The Wolverines are off to a 10-5 mark to begin the season ... York's Kelly Cavey led the Spartans to a 3-2 week including a 3-1 finish at the 2015 York College Spartan Volleyball Classic. She set a new career-high with 16 kills in a career-high 50 attempts in the five set loss to FDU-Florham. She led the Spartans with a 3.20 points per game average for the week.
