CAC Champion Mary Washington And Salisbury Selected To Host NCAA Field Hockey Regional Tournaments

The Mary Washington and Salisbury field hockey teams were both selected to compete in the 2012 NCAA Championship Tournament and each will host one of the four regional tournaments this weekend.

The CAC Champion Eagles (18-1), who have been ranked among the top seven teams nationally for most of the season, will open NCAA Tournament action Saturday against the winner of Wednesday's Franklin & Marshall vs. Eastern first-round contest.  The other half of that bracket features Messiah Saturday against the winner of Wednesday's Lynchburg vs. Catholic battle.

The second-place Sea Gulls (15-2), who were the top-ranked team in the country earlier this season and have been ranked in the top five most of the season, drew a first-round bye and will host the winner of Wednesday's Rochester vs. Rowan clash on Saturday.  In the other half of that bracket, Montclair State drew a bye and will play the winner of Wednesday's Christopher Newport vs. Gwynedd Mercy.

Both regional championship contests will be played Sunday (11/11), with the winners earning a trip to the Div. III Final Four Nov. 17-18 at William Smith College in Geneva, N.Y.

If both CAC teams advance to the final four, the Eagles and Sea Gulls would meet in the national semifinal round.
