Christopher Newport’s Hughlett, Kerr Sweep C2C Field Hockey Weekly Awards

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the eighth week of the 2023 field hockey season. Christopher Newport's Caroline Hughlett earned C2C Offensive Player of the Week honors, while the Captains Lily Kerr received C2C Defensive Player of the Week acclaim.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Caroline Hughlett, Christopher Newport

Caroline Hughlett led Christopher Newport with three goals during the week while guiding the Captains to a pair of victories. On Wednesday, she posted the game-winning tally in a 3-1 triumph over No. 5 Salisbury after breaking a 1-1 deadlock in the second quarter. With that goal, she became just the second freshman in school history to post the clinching strike in a triumph over a top-five opponent. On Sunday, she came back with her first collegiate multi-goal effort after depositing a pair of tallies in a 6-0 win over Centre. With her performance during the week, she moved to fourth on Christopher Newport's all-time freshman scoring list with 21 points this season.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Lily Kerr, Christopher Newport

Lily Kerr posted a pair of victories for Christopher Newport while compiling a .938 save percentage and 15 total stops during the week. On Wednesday against No. 5 Salisbury, she matched her career-high with 13 saves, which equaled the most by a Captain against a nationally ranked opponent since 2019. After the Sea Gulls slipped out to a lead in the first minute of action, she held them scoreless over the final 59:14. That shutout streak featured 12 straight saves, including five in the second half. On Sunday, she continued to blank her opposition with 51 minutes of scoreless action in a 6-0 win over Centre. During her time in the cage, she collected a pair of saves before exiting with a healthy lead late in the fourth quarter against the Colonels.
