Christopher Newport and Salisbury earned at-large bids into the 2023 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship, with the bracket announced Sunday (Nov. 5). 

Earning a spot for the 12th time in program history, CNU secured a first-round bye after compiling a pristine 17-0 record entering the playoffs. The Captains will kick off the postseason on Saturday at 11 a.m. against the winner of a first-round game between No. 13 Kean and St. Mary's (Md.). The Cougars will host the Seahawks in the opening round on Wednesday.

Salisbury punched its ticket for the 38th time in program history and 29th in a row.  The Sea Gulls earned one of six first-round byes in the field and will travel to Baltimore, Md. for the second and third rounds of the tournament. SU will face either ninth-ranked Williams or Worcester State in the second round on Saturday at 1 p.m. The winner of that game will square off with either fourth-ranked hosts Johns Hopkins, 25th-ranked Ithaca, or Endicott in the third round on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The NCAA DIII field hockey tournament bracket features 26 teams with 18 slots dedicated to automatic qualifiers with the remaining eight spaces given to at-large candidates chosen by the selection committee. Four semifinalists will advance to Jennings Family Stadium in Newport News, Virginia, where Christopher Newport University will host the final two rounds of the tournament Nov. 17-19.
