YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport senior Tyler Bennett earned CAC Golfer of the Week accolades for Oct. 4, 2016.

Christopher Newport senior Tyler Bennett earned CAC Golfer of the Week accolades after winning the Bay Creek Invitational with a two-under par 142 (69-73) last week. Bennett registered his first career under-par round in the first round, posting a three-under 69. His efforts helped lead CNU to a repeat win at Bay Creek with a +21 (295-302=597). Bennett carded nine birdies in the 36-hole event.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

All seven CAC men's golf squads have played at least once this fall ... CNU won its second straight title at the Bay Creek Invitational, a preview tournament for the 2017 CAC Championship at Bay Creek Resort in Cape Charles, Va. ... CNU captured the top three individual placings, with Kurt Funkhouser 146 (72-74) and David Rabil 146 (71-75) tying for second place ... Freshman Phillip Manceri led Mary Washington to a third place finish at the CAC Preview match at Bay Creek Country Club last week, tying for fourth overall with a two-day total of 150. He shot a 74 on day one, and a 76 on day two. The Eagles finished one stroke behind Virginia Wesleyan (609) in the team competition ... Marymount's Keegan Boone (76-74) finished tied for fourth at 150 ...  The 2017 CAC Championship is set for April 14-16 at Bay Creek Resort. This will mark the second straight year that the championship will be played at Bay Creek ... New Jersey City sophomore Alexander Sill became the first Gothic Knight golfer to shoot par on the front nine of a round and shared individual medalist honors with a teammate as he fired a round of +5 (76) as New Jersey City handily defeated The Sage Colleges, 313-411, in a dual match on Oct. 2 at the Galloping Hill Golf Course ... NJCU improved its record to 4-0 in head-to-head matches and tied the program record for lowest relative-to-par with a +29—matching the +29 (317) the Knights shot on Sept. 19 on a par-72 course in round two of the Penn State Harrisburg Invitational. The 313 team score is NJCU's lowest on a par-71 course ... Wesley's Dylan Chessher finished 12th overall with a four-over 74 at the Muhlenberg Invitational, helping the Wolverines to a seventh-place finish out of 20 teams.
