Salisbury Seniors Carson Kalama and Andrew Ternahan, York Sophomore Thomas Pfeiffer Collect CAC Men's Lacrosse Weekly Honors

YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury seniors Carson Kalama and Andrew Ternahan and York sophomore Thomas Pfeiffer were picked as the CAC Men's Lacrosse Players of the Week for Feb. 20, 2017.   

Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Salisbury senior Carson Kalama was selected as the CAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week after tallying 12 points on nine goals and three assists in a 3-0 start to the 2017 season for the top-ranked Sea Gulls. Kalama notched at least three points in each game in wins over Methodist, Lynchburg, and Montclair State, and registered two game-winning goals. He also accounted for eight ground balls and three caused turnovers throughout the trio of contests. 

 

Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Thomas Pfeiffer | York | So. | A

Forest Hill, Md. | Bel Air 

York sophomore Thomas Pfeiffer was named the CAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week after notching nine points on five goals and four assists in victories over Washington & Lee and Eastern. In the Spartans' 12-11 season-opening win over Washington & Lee, Pfeiffer recorded three goals and two assists, including an assist on Hunter Davis' game-winner with 1:11 left in regulation. Against Eastern, Pfeiffer tallied two goals and two assists in a 13-6 win. For the week, Pfeiffer scored his five goals on just eight shots and also totaled seven ground balls and a caused turnover. 

 

 

 

Defensive Player of the Week

Andrew Ternahan | Salisbury | Sr. | LSM

Salisbury senior Andrew Ternahan picked up CAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades after totaling 15 ground balls and six caused turnovers in the Sea Gulls' 3-0 start to the season. Ternahan has helped the SU defense hold its opponents to just 5.67 goals per contest. The Sea Gulls defense is also clearing at a 98% clip (56-for-57) to begin the year.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

All nine CAC men's lacrosse teams have now opened the 2017 season, with Salisbury (3-0), York (2-0), and Southern Virginia (1-0) sporting winning records ... Salisbury is ranked No. 1 in both the USILA and Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Rankings. York is ranked No. 4 by Inside Lacrosse and No. 5 by the USILA ... CNU's Matthew Crist led the Captains with three points, including a pair of assists, in the team's season-opening 14-6 setback at No. 20 Washington & Lee on Wednesday ... Frostburg State's Keegan Colegrove opened the season with three goals as the Bobcats suffered a narrow 10-8 loss at No. 17 Ursinus ... Senior Mike Marson has gotten off to a hot start for Mary Washington, scoring five goals in a 13-9 season-opening defeat at Hampden-Sydney, and adding three goals and an assist as the Eagles topped Randolph-Macon, 13-12. He has picked up five ground balls ... Marymount sophomore Sean Friedman eclipsed his point total last year in the first two games this season, finishing the stretch with six points off six goals. He opened the season with a goal against Methodist, before putting away a career- and game-high five goals against Southern Virginia on Saturday ... St. Mary's goalkeeper Max Alderman made 13 saves against Dickinson ... Southern Virginia freshman face-off specialist Cavin Huntsman won 12-of-27 face-offs and had five ground balls in the Knights' 16-14 CAC win over Marymount. Shawn Lamb scored a team-high four goals for the Knights.
