Salisbury Drops 1-0 Decision To Dickinson In Opening Round Of NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament

The No. 19 Salisbury University men's soccer team saw its season come to a close Saturday evening in the opening round of the 2008 NCAA Division III tournament.
The Sea Gulls dropped a tough 1-0 game to the hands of Dickinson College on the campus of Swarthmore College. The Capital Athletic Conference champion Sea Gulls were shutout for only the second time all season.
Dickinson (13-3-3) scored the game's only goal at the 67:23 mark when Matthew Critchlow took a pass from Dale Rodman from inside the box and buried it past Sea Gull goalkeeper junior Greg Wellinghoff. Critchlow's game-winner marked the only shot on goal for the Red Devils.
The Red Devil defense limited Salisbury to just 12 shots in the game and only two shots on goal. SU came into the meeting averaging 19 shots per game and 2.95 goals per game. SU did manage to outshoot Dickinson who had nine shots.
The Sea Gulls (15-4-3) were led by junior midfielders Kyle Sterling and Alex Hargrove, who both registered two shots (one on goal) apiece. Freshman forward Sam Forline added three shots for SU.
Dickinson, who received a Pool C at-large bid, will play Swarthmore College in Sunday's second round game. The Garnet defeated Rutgers-Camden, 2-0, in the other first round game.
