The 18^th-ranked York College men's soccer team saw their 2010 campaign come to an abrupt end Saturday afternoon as they fell 1-0 to Kenyon College in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in York.

The Spartans close out the year with a 16-5-1 mark while the Lords, who stand at 15-2-2, advance to tomorrow's second round against the winner of Ohio Wesleyan and Catholic.

Kenyon's Miguel Barrera provided the only goal of the match, tallying his seventh of the season in the 71^st minute. Tim Nolan played a played through the middle of the field that allowed the speedy Barrera to sprint behind the Spartan defense. With only the oncoming Jesse Derksen to beat, Barrera clipped his shot over the on-rushing York goalkeeper as the attempt found the back of the net for the match's only score.

Kenyon nearly made it 2-0 in the 84^th minute as Alistair Flynn knocked a one-timed attempt on goal. However, Derksen posted a tremendous save while the ensuing rebound shot was kept out by Matt Yackel – the newly crowned Capital Athletic Conference Rookie-of-the-Year.

Down 1-0, the Green and White desperately pushed for the tying goal over the match's final minutes but came up just short.

The Lords troubled the Spartans all day as York was not able to get into a sustained offensive flow. Kenyon pushed the pace early, controlling much of the play during the opening minutes, as they set a fast and physical tone that proved fruitful in the end.

Despite Kenyon's offensive push, the excellent backline of Yackel, Adam Good, Andy Stromberg and Cody Pearson as well as Derksen kept the Lords at bay throughout a majority of the match. Stromberg in particular played an exceptional contest, making tough tackle after tough tackle.

For the match, the Lords held an 11-4 lead in shots and an 8-1 bulge in corner kicks. Kenyon goalkeeper Tyler Schatz made one save in the victory while Derksen collected a trio of stops.
