INTRODUCING ... Stevenson Senior Men's Soccer Goalkeeper Ryan Flannelly

Ryan Flannelly is a three-year starter and a four-year letterwinner between the pipes for the Stevenson men’s soccer team. He earned All-CAC recognition as a sophomore in leading the Mustangs to the 2009 CAC championship game – the first of three-straight years Stevenson qualified for the CAC playoffs. Briefly, what is your background in the sport you play? I started playing soccer for my father at the age of six. I played on club teams throughout central New Jersey. I played varsity soccer for four years at Middlesex High School where I was all conference three times and was selected to the all-state team my junior and senior seasons..
What is your favorite spot on campus? My favorite spot is at the top of the hill on the Owings Mills campus by the gatehouse. From there you can get a view of the whole campus, plus an over view of the new stadium.
Outside of your home and campus, where is your favorite place visit? My favorite place to visit is my family’s beach house in West Creek, New Jersey. I love to go fishing and boating while I am there.
Other than your team, what organization (s) do you participate in? I participate with my church on a mission trip to Appalachia every summer.
Briefly describe the most memorable experience during your collegiate athletic career. My most memorable moment in my college career has to be my sophomore year when we shut out Salisbury at Salisbury in the CAC semifinals.
What is the most important societal issue facing college students? I think every college student struggles with money and paying off student loans.
If you could change any one item in the world (in your personal life, school, community, amateur or professional sports, national/international issue, etc.), what would it be, why, and how would you do it? If I could change anything I would eliminate ties in sports. I think there always should be a winner and a loser.
What is your major in college, and what is the most important thing you learned in that discipline? I am an Interdisciplinary Studies major where I am studying both history and business. The most important thing I have learned in my major is how to create a website and market it for the whole world to see.
Other than your family members, who was the most influential person in your life? The most influential person in my life would be General Sherman of the Civil War. He battled his ups and down in his career but always attacked every problem presented with a “no prisoners” attitude.
What is your favorite form of entertainment? My favorite form of entertainment is shooting around with a couple people. This is the most relaxing thing to do.
What is your favorite source of information (TV, book, magazine, website, friends in dining hall, etc.)? My favorite source of information would probably be barstoolsports.com. That website always has entertaining and funny news every day.
If you could give one piece of advice to elementary school children, what would that advice be? My advise would be to live your life, take chances, be crazy. Don't wait because right now is the oldest you've ever been & the youngest you'll be ever again.
Outside of the Capital Athletic Conference, who or what is your favorite sports person or team? My favorite sports team in the New York Yankees. I love the Yankees because they always have a decent season even though people write them off every year.
Name three (3) people, real or fictional, living or dead, that you'd like to have dinner with? I’d like to have dinner with Tim Lincecum & Brian Wilson from the San Francisco Giants, and actor/comedian Jonah Hill. I feel like dinner with these three guys would be pretty wild and funny.
