Mary Washington’s Guzman, Rogers Selected C2C Men's Soccer Players of the Week

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the seventh week of the 2024 men's soccer season. Mary Washington’s Diego Guzman claimed C2C Offensive Player of the Week honors, while the Eagles Freddy Rogers was tabbed C2C Defensive Player of the Week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Diego Guzman, Mary Washington
Mary Washington senior Diego Guzman netted the game-winning goal in the No. 1 Eagles' 1-0 victory over Christopher Newport on Saturday afternoon. The midfielder was dragged down in the box, resulting in a foul call on the Captains and a penalty kick ensued. Guzman wound up and scored the game's only goal with just seconds remaining in the first half. For the week, Guzman attempted six shots in the Eagles' two victories, four of which were on goal in 66 minutes of action.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Freddy Rogers, Mary Washington
Mary Washington senior Freddy Rogers posted a pair of shutouts, playing in all 180 minutes of the top-ranked Eagles two games this past week. Against Stevenson on Wednesday, Rogers recorded one save on the Mustangs' lone shot-on-goal. Then on Saturday, Rogers was tested a bit more and passed with flying colors. Christopher Newport recorded five shots-on-goal with Rogers recording a save on each of them. With his two victories this past week, Rogers now has 31 career wins in his UMW career and leads the conference in saves (35), victories (13) and shutouts (5).
HONORABLE MENTION
OFFENSIVE: Liam Pierce, Salisbury
DEFENSIVE: Clif Nehman, Salisbury
C2C HIGHLIGHTS
Liam Pierce netted his third goal of 2024 on Wednesday in a tie against No. 22 Johns Hopkins, a critical strike that gave Salisbury a 1-0 advantage after over 75 minutes of scoreless soccer. Pierce shares first on the team in goals while taking just seven shots, the fewest of any student-athlete in the C2C with three or more goals… Clif Nehman stood tall between the pipes for Salisbury in a 1-1 draw with No. 22 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday. The freshman net-minder turned away four Blue Jay chances across the full 90 minutes in goal, marking his third outing with four or more saves since earning the starting job.
