Mary Washington’s Berg, Rogers Sweep C2C Men's Soccer Players of the Week

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the 10th week of the 2024 men's soccer season. Mary Washington's Carter Berg earned C2C Offensive Player of the Week honors, while the Eagles Freddy Rogers was tabbed C2C Defensive Player of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Carter Berg, Mary Washington

Mary Washington senior Carter Berg not only proved he could hang with the country's best collegiate soccer players, but he also added on to his legacy by becoming at least the fifth member of the 100 Point Club in UMW Men's Soccer history. Against the University of Virginia (Div. I), Berg scored the Eagles' second goal on a penalty kick that brought Wednesday's contest to within a score at 3-2. And against Christopher Newport, Berg became at least the fifth player in program history to record 100 career points with his first goal against the Captains in the 16th minute, but Berg wasn't done quite yet. The senior midfielder then scored again in the 29th minute to ice Saturday's contest in the 3-0 victory. All told, Berg scored three times on eight shots with four of those shots being on net, and he added Saturday's game-winner for good measure.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Freddy Rogers, Mary Washington

Mary Washington senior Freddy Rogers held his own against the University of Virginia (Div. I) on Wednesday and then shut out Christopher Newport in a 3-0 victory on Saturday. Against the Cavaliers, Rogers recorded a pair of saves in a match that was 3-2 until the final 10 minutes of play. Then, against CNU, Rogers recorded two more saves in 90 minutes of action and recorded his eighth shutout of the 2024 season to run his season record to 16-1-1 (16-0-1 against Div. III opponents).

HONORABLE MENTION

OFFENSIVE: Gavin Miller, Salisbury

DEFENSIVE: Josh Wendel, Salisbury

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Salisbury's Gavin Miller was robbed of a hero moment in Wednesday's match at Christopher Newport in Newport News, Va., that ended in a tie, yanking the string for his fourth free-kick goal with just 30 seconds left to give his side a 1-0 lead against the Captains. Miller's six scores are the most on the 2024 squad by three goals… Josh Wendel turned in a stellar start in Salisbury's regular-season finale at Christopher Newport in Newport News, Va., turning away eight Captain attempts and coming just 10 seconds from his second career shutout in the eventual 1-1 draw. His eight saves tied the most in a single game for any Sea Gull net-minder this season.
