CNU’s Truong, Linam Earn C2C Tennis Player of the Week Accolades

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the seventh week of the 2024 spring tennis season.  Christopher Newport sophomore Vincent Truong claimed C2C Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors, while Captains senior Mia Linam was named C2C Women's Tennis Player of the Week.


MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Vincent Truong, Christopher Newport

Truong won both of his matches against Averett this weekend to help Christopher Newport capture a 9-0 win against the Cougars. He paired with Nesh Kumaresan for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles against Alex Donnelly and Prabjeet Chandhok. In singles, he earned a 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 win against Jaeden Mukkaladyil at No. 1.


WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Mia Linam, Christopher Newport

Linam won all four of her matches this week as Christopher Newport posted a pair of 9-0 shutouts against Washington (Md.) and Averett. First, against the Shorewomen, Linam made her first career start at No. 1 singles and earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Soleil Namunyola. She also paired with Samantha Robertson for an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Then, against Averett, Linam again earned a doubles win with Robertson, 8-5, and improved to 8-3 on the season on the No. 2 line. In singles, Linam dropped just three games in a straight set win against Keira Gunning at No. 3, 6-0, 6-3.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

UC Santa Cruz's Praneet Varade had a comeback win in dual against Colorado College 3-6, 7-5 and a tiebreaker set of 11-9 in No. 2 singles to finish a 6-3 win. Also won 8-3 at No. 1 doubles for first DIII doubles win of the year… Gurv Suri won all three of his singles matches during Salisbury's three-day road trip through Georgia. He took down Piedmont's Mike Porcelli in straight sets on Monday, Berry's Jake Chapman in three sets on Tuesday, and Covenant's Solomon Crouch in straight sets on Wednesday, all in fourth singles. Suri and Caleb Brightman also teamed up for a second doubles win at Covenant on Wednesday… Freshman Evan Fisher helped #29 Mary Washington to a split in two matches this week, winning three of four matches. On Wednesday in an 8-1 win over Centre College, Fisher scored a 6-3, 6-4 win at six singles, and teamed with Jack Riordan for an 8-7 win at two doubles. On Saturday, Fisher accounted for one of UMW's two points, with a 7-6, 0-6, 10-8 win at six singles… Hannah Carter went 5-1 in her six matches across Salisbury's three-day trek through Georgia. She won all three of her singles tilts in straight sets, including a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win over Piedmont's Jordan Ballard to open the week. Carter also teamed up with Evelyn Whiteside to go 2-1 in doubles play, earning Tuesday and Wednesday wins over Berry and Covenant… UC Santa Cruz's Sweden Van Houten won dramatic three-set match at No. 6 singles on March 18 to close out 6-3 home win over Colorado College. Was the first-year's fifth consecutive singles win in spring duals. Also won No. 2 doubles match with partner Chloe Wu and won their doubles match on Sunday at Occidental before weather postponed the singles portion… Freshman Addison Felts helped 26th ranked Mary Washington to a split with nationally-ranked opponents this weekend at the Blue Gray Invitational, winning three of four matches. On Saturday in a 6-3 win over Southwestern (TX), Felts gained a 6-4, 6-1 win at three singles, and teamed with junior Emily Beckner for an 8-2 win at two doubles. On Sunday, Felts accounted for one of the Eagles' points in a 7-2 loss to #19 Case Western, gaining a 6-4, 6-2 win at three singles.
