CNU’s Monroe, Weis Named C2C Tennis Players of the Week

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the third week of the 2025 spring tennis season.  Christopher Newport's Ryan Monroe claimed C2C Men's Tennis Player of the Week honors, while the Captains Raine Weis was named C2C Women's Tennis Player of the Week.


MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ryan Monroe, Christopher Newport

Christopher Newport junior Ryan Monroe won a pair of thrilling matches against nationally ranked competition this week as the Captains defeated No. 15 Sewanee and fell to No. 27 Washington and Lee. He played both of his matches at No. 2 singles and earned wins against James Kurani (3-6, 6-3, 6-4) and Gil Weston (2-6, 6-4, 6-3). Monroe remained unbeaten in singles play this year, improving to 10-0.


WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Raine Weis, Christopher Newport

Christopher Newport senior Raine Weis won all four of her matches this week as the Captains defeated Methodist and nationally-ranked Averett at home. Playing at No. 1 doubles with Kylie Schaefer, Weis earned a 6-1 win against Methodist and a 6-3 win versus Averett. In singles play, Raine surrendered only four games in four sets to remain unbeaten in duals at No. 1 this season. She captured a 6-0, 6-1 win against Emma Hulicki (MU) and a 6-2, 6-1 win against Siddhi Khandelwal (AU). With the second singles win, she now has 45 career wins and moved into the top-10 all-time at CNU.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Salisbury's Jhayden Pappas was the only Sea Gull to win two singles and two doubles matches in a pair of team dubs over Goucher and Methodist. On Saturday against Goucher he won first doubles (6-2) with Asher Willenborg and took first singles (6-4, 4-6, 6-4). On Sunday against Methodist, Pappas and Willenborg rolled through first doubles (6-3) before Pappas handled second singles (6-3, 6-3)… Sophomore Trevor Rein led #26 Mary Washington to four victories this week in five matches. In singles, he opened the week with a 7-6, 6-3 loss to #7 Johns Hopkins, but bounced back with four singles wins, defeating Marko Arboleta of Haverford, 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 at one, and Dominick Suwak of Shenandoah, 6-3, 6-3, at one on Saturday. on Sunday, he downed Mihir Parcha of Stevens, 6-0, 6-2, at two, and Tudor Vlad of Va. Wesleyan, 6-3, 7-5, at one. In doubles, he teamed with Jack Riordan to score four weekend doubles wins, improving to 12-3 in doubles play on the year… UC Santa Cruz's Mayur Nakoola went undefeated on the Banana Slugs' Southern California road trip, winning his matches in two sets against Whittier and Occidental and prevailing in a three set match against Caltech… Salisbury's Gibelle Beaujon won both her top doubles and singles matches in the Sea Gulls' 6-1 victory over Dickinson on Friday. Beaujon started off by pairing with Olivia Hall for a 6-3 triumph in first doubles. Then in first singles, Beaujon was the first to finish off her opponent, taking the bout in straight sets (6-0, 6-2).
