Christopher Newport Junior Jeff Dover and Mary Washington Freshman David Danek Earn CAC Men's Track & Field Weekly Accolades

YORK, Pa. -- Christopher Newport junior Jeff Dover and Mary Washington freshman David Danek were selected as the CAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week for Dec. 6, 2016.

Christopher Newport junior Jeff Dover was honored as the CAC Track Athlete of the Week after leading all Division III competitors in both the mile and 3,000 during the CNU Holiday Open on Sunday at the Freeman Center. In the mile, he finished second overall with a time of 4:15.58. In the 3,000, he was also the overall runner-up after crossing in 8:38.40. Both of those times rank third in CNU history and were the fastest marks registered by a Division III runner in the nation last weekend.

Field Athlete of the Week

Mary Washington freshman David Danek was selected as the CAC Field Athlete of the Week after turning in a first-place finish in his first collegiate meet for the Eagles. Danek won the high jump at the Roanoke Bast-Cregger Invitational with a leap of 1.95 meters. His mark currently ranks 14th in Division III.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Six CAC teams opened their indoor campaigns this past weekend ... Frostburg State competed at the Marty Pushkin Classic at West Virginia. Senior Patrick Broussoul won the weight throw at 13.29m, while freshman Kevin McCarthy took first in the 200-meter dash at 23.76 ... Mary Washington freshman Camron Rauch turned in an excellent start to his collegiate career. He finished in second place in the 300 meters at 36.74 seconds, and then was a member of the school-record-breaking 4x200 relay that finished with a time of 1:34.18 ... Salisbury junior Zach Schmelz claimed the only individual victory for the Sea Gulls at the CNU Holiday Open, taking first in the 400-meter dash at 50.59 seconds. Freshman Jeffery McInnis finished second in the long jump in his first collegiate meet, posting a distance of 22'-4.25" ... York competed at the River Hawk Opener in Selinsgrove, Pa. Senior Rick Jones earned second place in the 60-meter hurdles at 8.92, finished fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.26) and eighth in the 200-meter dash (24.11). Junior Darris Rodrigues took fourth in the pole vault with a best height of 12'5.25".
