Tim Hartung Leads York To Team Title At Frostburg State Men's Cross Country Invitational

Tim Hartung Leads York To Team Title At Frostburg State Men's Cross Country Invitational

Six of the seven CAC schools competed this weekend at Frostburg University for the Frostburg State University Invitational.  This is the same site where the conference championships will be held later this fall on October 27th.  Men ran the 8K course while the women ran a 6K.

The Bobcats hosted the Frostburg State University Invitational this past Saturday and had a great turnout from fellow CAC schools.  Frostburg men placed 6th with senior Gavin Cauup crossing the finish first for the Bobcats in 16th place in 29:32.60.  Freshman Josh Biser was next for Frostburg with a time of 32:34.50.  The next race for the Bobcats is September 29 at Dickinson College for the Long/Short Invitational.

Marymount Saints joined five other CAC schools at Frostburg State University claiming 7th place.  Freshman Dalton Royal arrived at the finish line in 31:49.90 with junior Kevin Farmer shortly behind with 33:07.00.  The Saints will remain inactive next week and will race on October 6 at the Hagan Stone XC Classic.

Mary Washington traveled to Western Maryland for Frostburg’s home meet, site of the CAC Championships in late October.  The men finished 3rd and had three runners in the top ten.  Junior Corey Lyons was first for the Eagles in 7th place with a time of 28:48.00.  He was trailed by junior Jeff Branson in 8th place at 28:53.30 and sophomore Julian Menk in 29:06.50 for 10th place.  The Eagles will fly again at the Paul Short Invitational in Lehigh, Pa on September 28.

The Salisbury Seagulls raced to finish 2nd overall out of seven teams.  Freshman Kyle Tockman completes his third collegiate race and is first Seagull to cross the finish in each race.  Tockman crossed the finish with teammate Nathan Austin, placing third and fourth with a race time of 28:43.00.  Salisbury will race again at the Don Cathcart Invitational in Salisbury, Md. on September 29.

St. Mary’s claimed their 5th place at Frostburg with senior Dan Swain finishing second at 28:26.90.  This is Swain’s third top ten finish.  Sophomore Tim Carey was the second Seahawk to cross the line at 29:57.90.  Freshman Muluberhan Bahre made his scoring debut, completing the 8K race in 31:28.90.  The Seahawks will travel to Newville, Pa on the 29th for the Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational.

Southern Virginia competed at the Roanoke Invitational on Saturday, finishing 2nd of six teams.

York men captured first place at the Frostburg State University Invitational with junior Tim Hartung paving the way.  Hartung crossed the finish first with a time of 27:49.70.  Following Hartung was junior Aaron Robertson with 5th place in 28:46.00 and freshman Carus Cookman at 28:26.30.  Interestingly enough, York’s cross country coach, Erick Camodeca, had both men and women’s teams run through a pre-race workout.  Coach wanted to have the runners to push through the fatigue and increase their pace in the last mile.  This strategy seems to have worked out as the men’s team had three runners in the top ten and claimed their first place victory. The Spartans will race again on September 29 at the Dickinson College Long/Short Invitational.
