Junior pitcher Erika Brittingham had a great 2011 season. It started on February 25, when she pitched her first collegiate no-hitter in the Sea Gulls' season opener, and ended with a Regional final appearance on May 15. On Friday, the Georgetown, Del., native was recognized for her outstanding season by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, earning second-team All-America honors.

The Salisbury University softball team knew it was in the NCAA tournament, thanks to an 18-0 win in the Capital Athletic Conference championship game on April 17. The Sea Gulls knew they would be hosting an NCAA regional tournament, as it was announced last month. On Monday afternoon, the tournament field was released by the NCAA and Salisbury found out it would begin play in the championship as the No. 3 seed in its regional, which will feature eight teams.

Sea Gull teammate Harley Hill and Frostburg State’s Caitlin Lovend, a pair of freshmen first basemen, were selected as the Co-Rookies of the Year while Salisbury veteran mentor Margie Knight was tabbed by her peers as the CAC Coach of the Year for the fourth-straight year and 10th time in her career.
