Salisbury Sophomore LeAnne Collins and York Sophomore Melissa Jurkiewicz Tabbed as CAC Softball Players of the Week
YORK, Pa. -- Salisbury sophomore LeAnne Collins and York sophomore Melissa Jurkiewicz were named the CAC Softball Players of the Week for March 1, 2016.

Salisbury sophomore Leanne Collins was honored as the CAC Player of the Week after hitting .522 through the first six games of the season, with four multi-hit games including three three-hit contests. Spending much of her time in the leadoff role, Collins drove in three runs and scored eight times while coming up with a pair of triples and a double. She reached base at a .542 clip and slugged .739. In the outfield, she came through with one outfield assist.

York sophomore Melissa Jurkiewicz was named the CAC Pitcher of the Week after leading the Spartans to their first victory of the year with a complete-game, one-hit shutout in a 6-0 win over Lyndon State. Jurkiewicz struck out a career-high 10 batters with no walks in the victory.

In the NFCA Preseason Poll, Salisbury is ranked No. 2 and Christopher Newport is No. 12 ... Seven of the eight CAC teams have opened up their 2016 campaigns, with Penn State Harrisburg set to begin its season this weekend ... Christopher Newport is 6-0 on the year as the lone unbeaten in the conference ... Taylor Blevins helped Frostburg State to a split with Randolph-Macon as she went 3-for-5 with three runs, a double, home run and RBI. Allison Short tossed all 7.0 innings in the circle in the Bobcats' 4-2 win over Randolph-Macon, striking out three and scattering four hits with two earned runs ... Mary Washington opened the season with a doubleheader split with Gettysburg. Emily Briggs had three hits and Hannah Hautz added a homer in the Eagles' win ... Southern Virginia is 2-2 on the year including a sweep over Franciscan last weekend. Rachael Moore leads the Knights with a .500 batting average and three RBIs. As a pitcher, Moore earned her first career win on Saturday with a one-hit shutout performance against Franciscan. She leads Southern Virginia with a 3.94 earned run average and has recorded two wins ... Wesley went 2-2 on the weekend, splitting doubleheaders with Albright and Swarthmore. The Wolverines fell behind early against Albright, losing game one 10-6 but came back in game two with a crucial 3-2 victory. Ashley Royer provided the game-winning RBI and Lily Engel tossed a gem. Nina Marcano hit her 15th career triple in the game, setting a CAC record. Against Swarthmore, Engel earned another win the next day, leading the Wolverines to a 7-0 victory over the Garnet while Lindsay Siok earned the save. Marcano and Kayla Fromal finished with two RBI apiece ... York continues its spring break trip in Clermont, Fla. this week.
