Salisbury's LeAnne Collins Selected as CAC Female Athlete of the Year

Salisbury University junior softball outfielder LeAnne Collins (Sparks, Md./Hereford) was selected by the Capital Athletic Conference athletic directors as the 2016-17 Female Athlete of the Year. This marks the second year of the awards' existence, with Christopher Newport's Briana Sutton winning the honor in 2016-17.

The season came to an end for the Christopher Newport softball team Monday, as the 11th-ranked Captains were defeated by 13th-ranked Kean University in the NCAA's Union Regional. The Cougars posted a 4-1 victory in the second game of the day after CNU had recorded a 3-2 victory to force the deciding game in the double-elimination regional.

Christopher Newport bounced back after losing Sunday morning to Kean in the NCAA Softball Tournament, rallying to defeat Neumann to advance to the Union Regional Championship on Monday. CNU recorded a 5-1 victory over the Knights, and will play host school, Kean beginning at 11:00 a.m. Monday morning at Cougar Field.

Freshman pitcher Aubrey Bates picked up where she left off nearly three weeks ago, as Christopher Newport opened NCAA Tournament play Friday with a 2-0 triumph over Mount St. Mary College (N.Y.). Bates and the Captains, who hadn't seen action since the Capital Athletic Conference Championship on April 22nd, will advance to play Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. at Cougar Field on the campus of Kean University.
