FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Salisbury senior LeAnne Collins and junior Shannon Powell swept the CAC Softball Players of the Week for March 5, 2018.

Salisbury senior LeAnne Collins was selected as the CAC Player of the Week after reaching base 15 times in 17 plate appearances for a .867 on-base percentage and hitting .800 (8-for-10) during a 4-0 weekend for the Sea Gulls. Collins slugged 1.500 with a pair of doubles, a triple, and a home run and two RBIs. The triple was the 12th of her career, tying Collins for the Salisbury career mark in that category.

Salisbury junior Shannon Powell was tabbed as the CAC Pitcher of the Week after posting a pair of complete-game shutouts last week. Against Washington College on Saturday, Powell struck out four and gave up just three hits over five innings. Against Clarkson on Sunday, Powell struck out a career-high-tying six batters over five innings, allowing just four hits.

Christopher Newport is ranked tied for No. 11 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) national rankings ... CNU senior Rachael Payne led the Captains to a 4-1 start in the NFCA Leadoff Classic, knocking in 11 runs in five games. Sophomore pitcher Aubrey Bates threw a complete game victory in Arizona over Central on CNU's first day at the NFCA Leadoff Classic ... Southern Virginia sophomore Heather Terranova recorded a .667 batting average with four hits, including a home run and a double, as well as three RBIs in a pair of wins against Lancaster Bible. Sophomore Melanie Peyton pitched a complete-game shutout whie allowing just one hit with three strikeouts vs. Lancaster Bible ... Wesley junior Ashley Royer went 5-of-9 at the plate with a home run, four RBIs, four runs scored and two stolen bases in Wesley's 2-1 week. Royer is currently on a seven-game hitting streak dating back to last year. On the week, Royer slugged .889 and collected a .667 on-base percentage. Wesley's Abbey Mayse earned her first collegiate win against Stevenson and save against Gallaudet last week ... York senior Savannah Zittle led the Spartans to a 7-1 week during the final eight games of their 12-game spring trip. Zittle finished the week hitting .364 with four doubles, six RBI, and five runs scored. She had a .636 slugging percentage as she had 14 total bases for the week. She was very consistent during the week as she had a at least one hit in seven of the eight games while she had a pair of hits in the 10-9 win over Cabrini. Sophomore right-hander Ginger Lewis went 3-0 last week with a 2.52 ERA in six appearances and 25.0 innings. Lewis struck out 37 and walked nine for the week.
