UCSC’s Anderson, Hofstetter Sweep C2C Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week Recognition

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the ninth week of the 2024-25 track and field season. UC Santa Cruz's Eric Anderson earned C2C Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors, while the Banana Slugs Evan Hofstetter claimed C2C Men's Field Athlete of the Week recognition.


MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Eric Anderson, UC Santa Cruz

UC Santa Cruz senior Eric Anderson made headlines in the 1500m shattering the program record (3:53.50) by over eight seconds with a time of 3:45.02 at the Mike Fanelli Track Classic. Anderson's time gave him second place in a field of over 170 runners, including NCAA Division I student-athletes, while putting himself second in the nation.  Anderson turned around and doubled in the 800m, running the sixth fastest time in the nation so far this season with a 1:51.09.


MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Evan Hofstetter, UC Santa Cruz

UC Santa Cruz sophomore Evan Hofstetter turned in a massive lifetime best in the decathlon over the weekend, recording 6,259 points which stands as the seventh best score in the country so far this season. In addition to his overall personal best, Hofstetter set personal bests in the shot put, discus, and 1500m to highlight his two-day performance at the Brutus Hamilton Multi.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Evan Young vaulted up Christopher Newport's all-time performance list in the 5000 during the 59th Annual Colonial Relays on Friday evening. At the meet, he completed the race in 14:53.72, which marked the eighth-fastest clocking in school history and the top effort by a Captain in three years. It also sliced over 40 seconds off his previous PR and bumped him to seventh in the South Region this year… Salisbury's Justin Freeman placed 33rd in the 800-meter at 1:53.34, earning a new PR at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational hosted by George Mason University… Christopher Newport's Colin Sliwa established a new school record in the hammer throw on Thursday at the 59th Annual Colonial Relays. During the meet, he posted a 54.06-meter heave, which beat the previous program standard by nearly two feet. It also marked the longest throw by any competitor in the league since Salisbury All-American Duncan Ferrin set the conference record in 2018. Additionally, Sliwa's toss moved him to first in the South Region and 30th on the national charts this year… Salisbury's Jadon Gaines earned 2nd place in the high jump at 1.95 meters (6-4.75) at the Dalton Ebanks Invitational hosted by George Mason University.
