Five CAC Soccer Teams Recognized By NSCAA For Academic Success During 2009-10
Five Capital Athletic Conference soccer teams, including four women's squads and one men's team, were honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) for success in the classroom during the 2009-10 academic year.
A total of 634 soccer teams (195 men, 439 women) posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, thereby earning the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2009-10 academic year. The NSCAA boasts 130 member institutions that had both men's and women's teams among the 634 honored squads.
York College of Pa., coached by Vicki Sterner, had the best team grade point average (3.33) among the three CAC women's squads during the 2009-10 season to gain NSCAA recognition.
Stevenson University (3.32 GPA), coached by 2009 CAC Co-Coach of the Year Graeme Millar, and St. Mary's College of Maryland (3.22 GPA), coached by Brianne Weaver, also earned national honors for the 2009-10 academic year. Stevenson tied for the 2009 CAC regular-season championship.
Also recognized for success during the 2009-10 year, although not a CAC member institution at the time, was Frostburg State University's women's soccer squad. The Bobcats, coached by Brian Parker and a member of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference in 2009-10, boasted a 3.36 GPA.
On the men's side, Salisbury University, coached by veteran mentor Gerry DiBartolo, was saluted by the NSCAA for compiling a 3.22 GPA. The Sea Gulls captured top honors during the regular season of the 2009 CAC campaign.
