York Women's Soccer Scores Late In Regulation, Then Captures The 2013 CAC Championship In A Shootout At Christopher Newport

Junior midfielder Beth Bunn assisted on the game-tying goal with just under three minutes remaining in regulation, then scored the only goal in five rounds of a shootout, to lift York to the 2013 CAC Women's Soccer championship.
The second-seeded Spartans (12-4-3) officially tied the top-seeded host Christopher Newport (14-3-2), but won their second CAC crown by a 1-0 margin in the shootout. YCP's only other CAC title was in 2007.
York, which also claimed the CAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, becomes the sixth different team to win the conference championship in the last six years.
CAC regular-season champion Christopher Newport (14-3-2), in its first year as a CAC member, will hope for an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament when the national championship tournament bracket is announced Monday.
The Captains opened the scoring in the 12th minute of the match when Bupe Okeowo scored her 14th-goal of the season off an assist from Victoria Perry.
The Spartans stayed alive in the match when Jenn Lindsay found the back of the net for the third time this year, with assists going to Bunn and Elexa Sherman.
After two scoreless overtime periods, Bunn started the shootout by putting her try in the upper left corner. Nine players from both teams followed unsuccessfully, with goalkeepers Melanie Glessner of York and Haley Casanova of CNU each making several critical saves.
