Four CAC Women's Soccer Players Earn First Team NSCAA All-South Region Accolades

Complete NSCAA All-South Region Team

Four CAC women's soccer players have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Region First Team - St. Mary's Gillian Sawyer and the Christopher Newport trio of Victoria Perry, Danielle Pratt, and Gabby Gillis

As first team selections, all four will be eligible for NSCAA All-America recognition, to be announced in mid December.

Sawyer, a senior and two-time CAC Player of the Year, earned her second-straight first team all-region honor. She led the CAC in both goals (16) and points (36) in 2016. She finished the year ranked 39th in Division III in goals per game (0.89), 41st in total goals, and 49th in points per game (2.0). Sawyer rewrote the St. Mary's record book, leaving the program as its all-time leader in points (109), goals (48), game-winning goals (13), and minutes played (5,543) as well as sharing the program lead for games played (72) with Sophia Esparza '10. She also finished tied for 10th with 13 assists.

Headlining the trio for the Captains is Perry, who earned the third all-region honor of her career.
During her senior season she became the Captains' all-time scoring leader, with 109 points, and also set the standard for career assists, with 31. Perry is also the program's all-time leader in game-winning goals, posting 16 throughout her career. This season, Perry scored 10 goals and added a league-leading and career-high 12 assists. She ranked in the top 20 nationally in total assists and was one of only 26 active players nationally to record 30 goals and 20 assists during her career. A first team All-Conference selection, she ranked second in the league in scoring with 32 points.

Pratt pieced together a standout season anchoring the back line for the Captains defense. Playing as a center back Pratt and the CNU defense held opponents to just seven goals in the first 19 games of the season, logging 12 shutouts. The Captains defense allowed just 8.1 shots per game and broke a program record for goals-against average with a 0.61 mark. She earned first team All-CAC honors as one of the Captains' most reliable defenders. She also chipped in offensively, scoring two goals and adding an assist for five points in her junior season.

Gillis, a sophomore midfielder, scored 12 points on five goals and two assists in 2016. She ranked fourth on the team in scoring and pitched in three game-winning goals. One of only three field players to start all 21 games this season, the consistent presence in the lineup garnered respect from the CAC coaches, as she was named a first team All-Conference pick in 2016.
