St. Mary's and Mary Washington Defend Home Fields, Move on to CAC Women's Soccer Semifinals
2016 CAC Women's Soccer Bracket
Third-seeded St. Mary's and fourth-seeded Mary Washington each defended their home fields in Saturday's CAC women's soccer first round action to advance to Wednesday's semifinals.
St. Mary's defeated sixth-seeded Salisbury (5-8-4) 2-1 behind two scores from senior Gillian Sawyer, including the game-winner in the 89th minute of play. The Seahawks (10-6-1) will travel to second-seeded Frostburg State (10-8) in Wednesday's semifinals at 6 p.m.
In a rematch of last year's CAC title game, Mary Washington (11-5-2) downed fifth-seeded York (7-10-1) 2-0 at the Battleground. The Eagles received a first-half goal from Lizzie Brooks and a second-half tally from Katie Rauch en route to the win. UMW will travel to top-seeded Christopher Newport (14-2-1) for a 6 p.m. semifinal tilt on Wednesday.
