NEW ORLEANS -- Earning national acclaim for her work with Christopher Newport's distance runners, Sarah Lagasse was named the South / Southeast Region Men's Indoor Track & Field Assistant Coach of the Year on Wednesday afternoon by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The regional award is the third for Lagasse since she arrived at CNU last year. During the 2018 campaign, she picked up both the Men's Indoor and Outdoor Assistant Coach of the Year honors. Previously, she was also celebrated as the New England Region Women's Indoor Assistant Coach of the Year for her work at Williams.

During the indoor season, Lagasse has led the most accomplished group of distance runners in the region. Among her standouts, Clark EdwardsCavanaugh McGaw, and Adam Wosahla are the top-three ranked 800-meter runners in the South / Southeast. Meanwhile, Edwards also boasts the top mark in the mile, while Christopher Newport features the fastest Distance Medley Relay in the region as well.

Incredibly, none of the top-ranked competitors at CNU are seniors, and both Edwards and Wosahla are freshmen.

Along with their work on the regional level, Lagasse's distance runners compiled 64 points at the Capital Athletic Conference Indoor Championships last month while leading CNU to a second-place finish. On an individual level, Edwards was named the CAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year, while Wosahla and the DMR also picked up All-League nods.

Since arriving in Newport News, Lagasse has helped 10 men secure All-Region accolades in individual events, while Jeff Dover and Cullen Monahanwent on to earn All-American plaudits during the 2018 indoor campaign. Additionally, she serves as the head of the cross country program, which saw the men's squad register a school-best third-place finish at the 2017 NCAA Championships.
