York's Abby Sykes & CNU's Sarah Johnson Selected CAC Women's Track & Field Athletes of the Week
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- York sophomore Abby Sykes & Christopher Newport senior Sarah Johnson were honored as the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Track & Field Athletes of the Week on April 2, 2019.

York sophomore Abby Sykes put together a strong performance to lead the Spartans at the Jim Taylor Invitational on Saturday at Susquehanna University. Sykes finished third in the 10K race as she posted a personal best time of 40:55.92, which is also the top time in the conference by a full minute. Sykes finished third behind a pair of runners for Division I Bucknell.

Christopher Newport senior Sarah Johnson posted two victories while climbing the national leaderboard in a pair of events during the Blue & Silver Challenge on Saturday. The senior unloaded a 41.54-meter toss in the discus, which vaulted her to 15th in the NCAA this year. She also captured the shot put with a 12.38-meter effort. That places her 22nd in the country.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE
Salisbury's Jamie Farley was solid for the maroon and gold at the Blue & Silver Challenge earning two second-place finishes in both the 100 and 200-meter. Farley earned the second-place finish in the 100-meter dash crossing the finish line in a time of 13.05 seconds before coming home in a time of 26.18 seconds in the 200-meter dash...York's Katie Krutz finished seventh in the pole vault at the Jim Taylor Invitational at Susquehanna University on Saturday. Krutz posted a best height of 2.80 meters to earn the seventh place finish for the Spartans...Salisbury's Kyleigh Dumas turned in a solid outing at the Blue & Silver Challenge over the weekend picking up her first victory of the outdoor season. Dumas earned the victory in the pole vault as she cleared the bar at a height of 11' 7.75." Her height currently ranks 21st in the nation for Division III...Southern Virginia's Baylee Mulitalo place first overall in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.90m at the Jim Taylor Invitational while also collecting a third-place finish in the shot put and fourth in the discus. She currently remains top-15 in each event in Divsion III...Frostburg State's Holly Van Wie collected a sixth-place finish with a 42.85-meter toss in the hammer throw at Susquehanna...The Mary Washington women competed at Goucher, and saw Yamina James finish second in the pole vault at 10 feet, six inches; Jean Woodrum take second in the hammer throw at 132 feet, eight inches, and third in the discus at 119 feet, nine inches; Jackie Smith took second in the javelin throw at 106 feet, 10 inches; Ashley Applegate was second in the steeplechase at 12:21.50; and Emily Knerr was first in the 1500 meters at 4:50.00.
