Frostburg State Loses To Marywood, 4-1, In Opening Round Of ECAC South Men's Soccer Tournament

Seventh seeded Marywood scored four-straight goals and stunned second seeded Frostburg State University with a 4-1 defeat in semifinal action of the 2012 ECAC Men's Soccer South Region Championship, Wednesday.

The Pacers (11-6-3) scored two goals in the first half and two more in the second for a 4-0 cushion to secure a spot in the tournament semifinals. Marywood now travels to top seed Penn State Behrend for the semifinals that start on Saturday.

FSU, which advanced to the ECAC Tournament for the second-consecutive season, finished 2012 with a 12-3-4 overall record.

Marywood's Christian Lawlor (16:19) and Kris Kassell (34:44) provided the offensive scoring in the opening half. Lawlor struck for his second goal of the game just over five minutes into the second half for a 3-0 lead. Ryan Jones found the net on a penalty kick at 51:43 to cap the Pacers' evening.

The Bobcat senior tandem of Ryan Russell and Shawn Baker connected for one final time in their collegiate careers to help avoid the shutout. Russell slid a long pass through the middle of the Marywood defense to a charging Baker who beat keeper Shane Quinn that closed the game's scoring at 4-1.

Both Quinn and Frostburg senior keeper Abiye Jack finished with four saves each. Marywood held a 16-11 edge in shots, including an 11-6 edge in the second half.
