Christopher Newport’s Vitale, Salisbury’s Rail Named C2C Women's Volleyball Players of the Week

The Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference (C2C) has announced its weekly awards following the fourth week of the 2024 women's volleyball season. Christopher Newport's Alyssa Vitale was named C2C Offensive Player of the Week, while Salisbury's Grace Rail received C2C Defensive Player of the Week honors.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Alyssa Vitale, Christopher Newport

Christopher Newport senior Alyssa Vitale orchestrated the Christopher Newport offense during their 3-0 weekend, setting new season highs in assists in back-to-back matches. She tallied 42 assists in the first match against Haverford, only to surpass that with 45 in the second match. Over the weekend, Vitale totaled 9 kills, 124 assists, and 7 aces.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Grace Rail, Salisbury

Salisbury senior Grace Rail averaged an impressive 5.80 digs per set, chasing down 58 total digs during the Sea Gulls' 3-0 weekend. In Friday's conference tilt with Mary Washington, she posted 22 digs (7.33 D/S). On Saturday, Rail recorded 18 digs in each of SU's victories over St. Mary's (Md.) and Hollins.

C2C HIGHLIGHTS

Salisbury's Gwen Eustace posted an impressive .549 attack percentage en route to 31 kills (3.44 K/S) in the Sea Gulls' perfect 3-0 weekend. On Saturday at St. Mary's (Md.) she hammered down a season-high 15 kills (.464), while later that day against Hollins she swung .800 to land eight kills against no errors… Warren Wilson's KJ Helinsky recorded 55 Kills with a hitting percentage of .201 in four contests last week.  Added 41 digs and six service aces… Senior hitter Chloe Crosen led Mary Washington in kills in each of the Eagles' two matches this week... She scored nine kills against four errors in the Eagles' 3-0 win over Division II Virginia Union on Wednesday, and then posted 13 against three errors in a 3-0 loss at Salisbury on Friday. She leads the Eagles with 125 points on the season… Warren Wilson's Josie McCoy tallied 38 digs (2.38 per set) in four games last week.  Added three service aces… Noelle Starr played a pivotal role in Christopher Newport's undefeated weekend, anchoring the defense with consistent performances across three matches. She set a season high with 22 digs in a three-set victory over Haverford, then followed that up with 19 digs in the second win over Haverford. Starr also added 15 digs in the Captains' win against Eastern, totaling 56 digs for the weekend.
