CAC Names 1,515 Student-Athletes To The 2017-18 All-Academic Team

The Capital Athletic Conference announced that a record 1,515 student-athletes were named to the 2017-18 All-Academic Team, an average of over 150 student-athletes per full member institution. The 1,515 honorees marks just the second time in CAC history that over 1,500 student-athletes have earned All-Academic recognition.

Christopher Newport, which recently swept the Capital Athletic Conference Commissioner’s Cup awards for the second straight season, finished 15th in the final 2017-18 Learfield Division III Directors Cup standings, announced Thursday, to headline the nine CAC institutions ranked in the final standings.

Christopher Newport captured 10 titles among the 22 conference sports to sweep all three categories of the Capital Athletic Conference all-sports award competition for the second-straight year. The Captains finished atop the standings in the Richard C. Cook All-Sports Award, the Men's Commissioner's Award and the Women's Commisssioner's Award.

The Capital Athletic Conference is saddened by today's news of the death of Wesley Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Mike Drass. Drass was an integral member of the CAC Athletic Council and NCAA Division III for many years and impacted the lives of numerous student-athletes throughout his career.

The Capital Athletic Conference is accepting applications for the position of Assistant to the Commissioner/Director of Championships. This full-time, two-year position is funded primarily through the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minorities & Women's Internship Grant, and offers the candidate the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of collegiate athletic administration at the conference level. The Assistant to the Commissioner/Director of Championships will work with the Commissioner and the Assistant Commissioner in all aspects of the Capital Athletic Conference office. The desired start date is August 2018.

The Frostburg State University Department of Athletics and the Office of Alumni Relations has announced that six former student-athletes will be inducted into the Bobcat Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2018. The annual dinner and celebration has been set for Friday, October 26, 2018 as part of Homecoming Weekend.

The University System of Maryland (USM) Board of Regents has appointed Charles Wight president of Salisbury University (SU), beginning July 1, 2018. Wight will succeed Janet Dudley-Eshbach, who announced last fall her plans to step down from the position after 18 years.

Christopher Newport is ranked 14th in the final winter standings of the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup to lead a group of nine Capital Athletic Conference schools in the Division III rankings. York (71st), Frostburg State (149th), Salisbury (166th), Wesley (166th), Marymount (170th), Southern Virginia (221st), Mary Washington (224th), and Penn State Harrisburg (285th) also earned points through the winter season.
