FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Salisbury junior infielder Jimmy Monaghan & York senior pitcher Will Grega earned CAC baseball weekly awards for March 25, 2019.  

Player of the Week

Salisbury's Jimmy Monaghan lit up the scoreboard last week, combing to go 6-for-11 (.545) at the plate across three games for the Sea Gulls. Monaghan's hits included three doubles and eight RBI, with his highlight being a grand slam in a 12-6 win over Frostburg State on Sunday afternoon. Monaghan also drew two walks and scored two runs over the weekend. This marks the second time in three weeks Monaghan had earned this award.

York senior Will Grega had a tremendous week in his one start for the Spartans. Grega tossed a complete game shut-out allowing just one hit, which was a soft infield hit, while striking out a career high 13 batters and walking none in a 5-0 win over Penn State Harrisburg. Grega faced just one batter over the minimum in the game in his first career complete game.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Salisbury's Clayton Dwyer continued his dominating month of March with a third complete game performance in his past four starts. Dwyer tossed nine innings in a win over Frostburg State University on Saturday afternoon, while striking out 10 batters and allowing only five hits, zero walks, and zero earned runs in a 4-1 victory...Christopher Newport's Josh Husby allowed just one unearned run in eight innings of work on the road in conference play ... struck out six batters...Mary Washington's Tyler Ray pitched a complete game victory over Southern Va. on Saturday, allowing one earned run on six hits in nine innings with four walks and nine strikeouts...Frostburg State's Jason Paredes hit .375 with six hits, two runs and four RBI for Frostburg in four games last week...York's Austin Denlinger continued to lead the Spartans offensively with another outstanding week. Denlinger went 7-for-16 on the week good for a .438 batting average to go along with one double, 4 RBI, 5 runs scored, and three stolen bases in a 3-1 week for the Spartans...Hitting at the top of the dangerous Captains lineup, CNU's Conner Clark registered multiple hit games in all four wins for the Captains this week. He scored 10 runs and drove in four while hitting .409 (9-22) out of the leadoff spot. He was 8-for-8 in stolen bases this week, moving up to fifth all-time in career steals at CNU with 52. He stole five bags in a game against St. Mary's, becoming just the fourth player in program history and the first since 2003 to do so. That mark ties the CAC record set in 1994 by SMC's David Layman...Mary Washington's Garrett Lyons had two hits in each of the Eagles' four games this week, batting .500 (8-16) with four doubles and a triple. He scored five runs and drove in six, and posted three stolen bases. His on base percentage was .619, and his slugging pct. was .875...Penn State Harrisburg's Travis Van Houten's excellent season continued during a 3-2 week for Penn State Harrisburg that included non-conference wins over Gettysburg and Susquehanna, as well as a conference victory over York (Pa.). The junior hit .400 with a .478 on-base percentage and an .800 slugging percentage for an OPS of 1.278. He drove in nine runs with a home run, a triple and three doubles. In his lone appearance on the mound against the Spartans, threw seven innings without allowing an earned run, scattered three hits and struck out 11 batters...Southern Virginia's Canon Anderson led the Knight's offense going 4-7 in their split with University of Mary Washington. He tallied a triple and a pair of RBI's to go with a .571 batting average on the week.
