St. Mary's Freshman Khalid Balogun and Salisbury Junior Nick Carrington Earn CAC Men's Soccer Weekly Awards

YORK, Pa. -- St. Mary's freshman Khalid Balogun and Salisbury junior Nick Carrington earned CAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors for Oct. 17, 2016.

St. Mary's freshman Khalid Balogun received CAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after totaling eight points in a 1-0-1 week for the Seahawks. Balogun scored both goals in the 2-2 draw at No. 22 Christopher Newport, with both as game-tying scores after the Seahawks fell behind twice. He then had a hand in three of the four goals in the 4-0 shutout win at Wesley. Balogun netted the game-winning goal before assisting on the next two. He is second on the team in scoring with 15 points (6 goals, 3 assists).

Salisbury junior Nick Carrington was named the CAC Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring a backline that allowed just six shots on target without conceding a goal in a 2-0 week for the Sea Gulls. Carrington and the Sea Gull defense limited Marymount and Frostburg State to just three shots on goal each in a pair of key shutout wins. He also added two goals on the offensive side, including a game-winner.

NOTES AROUND THE CONFERENCE

Christopher Newport moved up to No. 22 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) rankings ... CNU is the lone unbeaten in CAC play at 5-0-1, followed by Mary Washington and Penn State Harrisburg in a second-place tie at 5-1. St. Mary's (4-1-1) has a firm grip on fourth place, followed by Salisbury (3-3), Frostburg State (2-3-1), and York (2-3-1) ... Two weeks remain in the CAC regular season ... CNU's Stephen Durbin scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Mary Washington as the Captains re-took sole possession of first place in the CAC standings. Durbin also recorded an assist on the first goal of the game against St. Mary's. With the three-point week, Durbin moved into a tie with teammate Jimmy Grace as the league's leading scorer with 21 points. Durbin also has a league-best nine goals this season ... Frostburg State senior goalkeeper Hassan Mostafa totaled 15 saves on the week, including 12 saves in a 2OT draw with York ... Mary Washington split its two games this week to move to 10-3 on the season. The team is off to its best start since 2006 ... Penn State Harrisburg goalkeeper Brandon Hoover posted a pair of shutouts last week vs. Wesley and Marymount, totaling seven saves. Jonathan Majin led the Lions' offense with a goal and two assists, including the game-winner vs. Marymount and assisting on the game-winner vs. Wesley. Majin is tied for the conference lead in game-winning goals with St. Mary's Nick Tait with four, and ranks among the top three in the conference in goals, assists, and points ... Salisbury's Kendrick Michel scored twice in a 3-0 win over Frostburg State, his first career two-goal game ... St. Mary's goalkeeper Zack Haussler notched a career-best 16 saves in a 2-2 draw with CNU ... Southern Virginia goalkeeper Keenan Carroll recorded 19 saves last week and is third overall in the CAC with 54 saves ... York goalkeeper Charlie Johnson picked up a pair of road shutouts for the Spartans with three saves on the week. He has registered a 1.24 goals against average and a .717 save percentage in 1,236:41 of action for the Spartans in 2016.
